Trouble going to the store alone.

For some reason the last few months have been awful for me to try and go to the store by myself. Certain stores are worse than others. Usually bigger stores and ones with super bright lights are way worse for me. I used to be pretty independent but now I rely on other people to go to the store with me and it's very bothersome. I fear that I am going to have a panic attack or pass out. Any advice on what will help me overcome this? Thanks in advance!

Hi Leighakay,

I have a similar thing, I've had constant head pressure/ tension for a year now, sometimes it is really bad where I can not hold a conversation or even function.

I have a similar experience, I never really panic, which is why I never thought of anxiety up until now, I guess my anxiety just leads to intense head pressure and tension instead of the hyperventilation or passing out like others. When I enter large supermarket stores with bright like I almost feel dizzy, cloudy head, tunnel vision... the same happens when I walk anywhere on my own, such a strange feeling.

I'm currently studying for my masters and this is also having an effect as this happens every time I walk into Uni and stays with me for the full day.

So sick of this but what can I do? I'm just trying to get by day by day and hope some day it gets better!

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry you are dealing with the weird head pressure. I have gotten symptoms similar to that before also.

Some days are better than others. There are days where I feel like nothing can stop me and feeling anxious is silly, then others I feel completely out of control and panicky.

We just have to take it one day at a time and give our troubles to the Lord. 😊

I have this problem with the lights but it's because I am in this hell called depersonalization/derealization and the lights makes everything feel unreal like I'm in a dream. If I don't calm myself down I would have into full tunnel vision and panic. It sucks bad

I have definitely been there too! It is hell for sure! You just have to roll with it and tell yourself that it is only a symptom of anxiety. I know it's easier said than done but with time it should get better. Also praying and asking God for strength and healing is a must!

Hi Leighakay, Wearing sun glasses, Go only to stores that have carts at the beginning. By holding onto the cart handle it will help stabilize and ground you finally "deep breathing" slow and deliberate. Using deep breathing while driving as well as in the store will relax and calm your mind and your body. Breathe.... it does work... x

Thanks for the reply! I will have to try those things. I have done the sunglasses thing before but then people look at me weird and it gives me more anxiety. Maybe I should just care a little less. Haha
