Hi Megan_10845, It's not a matter of what medication would help you but more like getting the vicious cycle of fear stopped for a while. No one medication works for everyone. It's in the hands of your doctor to try a medication and a dosage that he feels will work according to your health history. It's not the meds that will take away the dizziness and faint feeling (oh how I hated that) but not feeling anxious any more will take away the dreaded dizzy and faint feeling.

We all are afraid to take meds because we fear the side effects. And yet, we can't stay stuck forever, this is not living.. And so we take that step forward into the unknown with hopes that it will lead to conquering our anxiety. From there we will become more rational about acceptance and options we can use daily in our lives. Options that will no longer make us fear each new day.

I think you've decided the time is right to get a little help by starting meds. An honest talk with your doctor or therapist should help put your mind at ease. Good Luck Megan...

I understand that's it's going to be a particular medicine for me. Even though I hate the thought of trying several. My main thing was wanting to hear from someone who has overcome it with medicine. I wanted to know what kind because I have tried about three already and they did nothing. It just gets hard suffering everyday. Thank you for your reply.

Megan, okay, the medicines I was on a long while back were Xanax and Lexapro as well as Ativan more recently. However, it wasn't until I was weaned off the meds completely, that I started doing better and getting my life back.

The dizziness and lightheadedness disappeared as I accepted it was from anxiety disorder. I no longer feared it. I found meditation and deep breathing relieved my stress. The times that anxiety may come along, it is easily dismissed by me.

It's not something that is acquired overnight. It took me time to get where I am at today. It didn't come easy. But I have finally found my comfort spot and I hope you will as well. My best.

I have wondered if the Xanax is making it worse but everytime I don't take it I feel the withdrawal effects. I hope I get to that place. Thank you it's comforting to know you have overcame it without medicine.

Megan, I wouldn't have made it w/o having leaned on medication at one time. It helped me not only in getting some relief but to pursue other methods that could help me.

For me Xanax took the edge off my anxiety enough to allow me to make it through each day. The problem was, even at the smallest dose, I was left on it daily for 30 years when it no longer worked. After Xanax, came Ativan which positively did nothing for me and that was when I decided I needed to do this on my own.

Try not to get discouraged. It is a trial and error thing.

As for the days you don't take Xanax, I believe you are feeling that withdrawal effect. It's the up and down effect since the dose doesn't last long. It's one of the reasons doctors today tend to go with SSRIs so that you have an even level of medication in your system.

I know all too well the feeling of daily battle with fear and anxiety....half the time it makes no sense. For me this has been a 2 yr 24/7 battle...prior to that I had many years of enjoying life....after going on paxil. I withdrew from it after 18 yrs and went through horror....then 1 new med after another.....nothing has helped, but Ativan does work for the unbearable episodes....it is not meant to be taken regularly. I attended CBT classes at our local hospital to try to get a grip on it, I've tried just about every non medical help too. I wish you all the best.

Hope your okay. I really feel for u. I've had meds sitting in the cupboard for a couple of months now but I'm terrified to take them as like u I'm also terrified of side effects but that's our anxiety that makes us scared to take tablets cos we over think things a lot. What meds u on and how long u been taking them?

That's how I am. I am only on a very small dose of Xanax at the moment which does very little. I have tried Effexor didn't work and had the worst withdrawals. Also tried Celexa and lexapro neither worked.

Megan, dizziness is a very common symptom of anxiety. I don't know if you've spoken to your doctor about this but it's important that you do because there is always a chance that dizziness can be caused by an imbalance in the ears. Also your doctor is the person to advise what meds are right for you in dealing with anxiety. No need to be terrified of side effects, these things have been thoroughly tested and any side effects are minor or, dare I say it, imagined.

You say you want anxiety gone and you CAN recover from anxiety without having to rely on meds for ever - but you must take charge of your own recovery plan and this begins with understanding of what anxiety is and how it works.

Understand then, Megan, that anxiety disorder strikes after we have been experiencing a period of worry, strain and tension. A point is reached where our over stressed nerves have had enough and they undergo a change whereby they become hyper sensitised and in this state they begin to cause us all kinds of symptoms. Beside dizziness these can include stomach problems, breathlessness, fear of impending doom or death, palpitations, fear of goingvoutdoors, visual disturbances, aches and pains including in the region of the heart, sensitivity to strong light to name but a few.

Many of these nervous symptoms mimic real organic illness and it is quite common for people to become convinced they have cancer or heart disease and Doctor Google is a willing accomplice in feeding these dillusions. But unlike real physical illness, anxiety disorder cannot kill you, damage your body or send you crazy. All it can do is half frighten you to death producing an abundance of fear - and it is this fear that feeds frazzled nerves and ensures they continue to be over sensitised.

The road to recovery from 24/7 dizziness and all other nervous symptoms is simply to Accept the symptoms for the time being and stop fighting them and allowing them to cause more and more fear and tension. Although you still feel bad, in your case dizzy, accept it with the minimum of fear and tell yourself you won't be tricked and bullied by your over sensitive nerves any more. After all, you now know what's happening to you, that it can't kill you and your bewilderment has been banished. So Accepting the symptoms and still feeling lousy get off that couch or out of that bed and get on with doing what you normally do.

"Oh yes you can, I say" because as your dizziness is or the harmless nervous kind it can't actually make you fall over (maybe you've noticed that already) so carry on with your life and simply Accept, Accept and Accept again all the fake symptoms your nervous system throws at you. Eventually, because you are no longer constantly re-sensitising yourself with fear, your nerves will recover and return to normal and you too will feel normal and enjoy the quiet mind once again.

My doctor didn't really act like dizziness was caused by anxiety. I have been to an ent and I don't believe it's any ear disorder. I do have the worst problem googling and it makes it ten times worse. I do get up and try to be normal as possible but i have been for three years now and am still the same if not worse.

Hi Megan I have had dizzy spells for about 6 months now and I now got to the point were they don't scare me anymore and when I do have 1 I think oh there is that dizzy spell again I wish it would do 1 and leave me alone by accepting it and take no notice of it let them come and go and because now I do that my dizziness has reduced a lot I don't get them as bad as I did. Jeff 1943 is right accept it don't let it control you. I refuse to take meds cause I know it is me who has to conquer it but that's only my choice not to take them. I do meditation aswell and I have also had reiki and found it really helpful you should try it make sure you go to a good reilki healer. ā˜ŗ

Hey something weird has happend with my anxiety, Ive been praying for it to leave and so has everyone family and friends, then last week I got a cold, and the anxiety went away, I couldnt believe it, I had taken some cold med's Corasedin, and wondered if that somehow did something, I read in a med book that you can be low in histamine (which can cause anxity) and of course in these cold med's thats whats in them , wondered if that could be it? But I think it was God because I never go to church and decided that Sun to go, and after I went home and looked for Jole Osteen the tv precher, and I asked God to give me a sign if this was really gone cause it felt gone, and if I should start to wean off the tranquilizers today. well, would you believe Jole was talking about weaning off thing,'s wow that was my sign. I didnt take my last pill that day, was fine next day same thing was fine now today 3rd day so far fine dont even feel like I need to take any pills at all...I think it is gone. There are many things that you can be low on from what ive read, b12, d3 etc maybe get some testing done to find out what is causing it...good luck prayer helps, TRUST IN GOD he can do wonders.

Hello. First thing first - You have to try AD. You will be glad You did. I was there - 24/7 vertigo/dizzyspells/weird ants in head. I had those for 6 months. I was going to sleep at 7 pm to just end those sensations. Then I tried Zoloft. Too bad side effectd. Then Lexapro (generic) I started very very little dose and went to 5 mg over week! No side effects. And all that shit I was feeling was gone after 14 days being on meds. I want you to try . I know how you feel now. It WILL help I promise!! I want to hug whoever created lexapro, cause it saved me. Wish you best. You ll be "normal" again, I swear to you!
