Hey everybody: Im new on this site, and am... - Anxiety Support
Hey everybody
Hi Mommacb, Welcome to the Anxiety Forum. I'm glad you don't feel as alone after reading some of the stories on the forum. Just so you keep an open mind to what others say. Since we are all different, it could have an impact on what works for one and not the other. I totally understand how anxiety can take over our lives. I suffered for years from symptoms that had control of me or so I felt. After having gone through therapy, medication, hospitalization, different techniques as well as doing a lot of research on my own, it boiled down to Acceptance. Accepting that anxiety was not harmful, it wasn't going to kill me. I was no longer afraid of the thoughts or feelings. Having been Agoraphobic, also left me. Hard to believe I went years and years without any relief but the minute I started practicing meditation, deep breathing and acceptance...the symptoms died down and eventually left me. Anxiety gets bored if you don't give into it. I came to a point in my life where I wasn't going to allow myself to be dictated by an entity of sorts in my brain. It worked. It takes patience, determination and practice, but it does work.
Yes mommacb you are definitely not alone. You have friends here all dealing with anxiety in different ways helping one another. Anxiety is hard to deal with and even harder to explain to friends and family who don't have it. Someone once said here on one of my posts. Breathe and remember it won't last forever. I try to remember that. Sometimes it works
Goodnight marsbarr, I'm signing off for the night. You've given some great responses. Hope you are doing okay. Stay positive x
Im just learning how to do breathing exercises. Its easier said than done when you are in the middle of an attack. Finally decided to take meds to help. Soon I will see a therapist. I just really need someone to talk to.
Hi Mommacb, Anxiety involves a lifestyle change as well as daily practice. It's like having to do your homework so you will be prepared for the next test. The test being an anxiety attack. Using meditation, deep breathing and acceptance are necessary tools but need to be used daily. Taking medication for a short time while pursuing therapy can help establish the confidence and determination you need to move forward and not stay stuck. We are all here for each other whenever you need a friend to talk with. We listen, we understand and we comfort each other. I wish you well Mommacb.
Anytime Mommacb. Sometimes it's all I need too. I'm sitting here at a ENT appt getting ready To jump through my skin.
I think what we learn is to live with it. Anxiety isn't our enemy, it's our natural fight or flight instinct that's a little out of wack. We just need to figure out how to not activate it when it's not necessary.
