I know how you feel, it's easier said than done to say just don't think about it. What I do is just keep busy if I'm home I will start washing dishes start cleaning just basically keep busy then hopefully they will pass & you will forget all about it. Hang in there 😊

stress, anxiety, hormones, caffeine.... Relax and breathe. You will be just fine!

The heart palpitations freaked me out also. Still makes me nervous to go to gym, monitoring heart rate constantly on elliptical. I've gone through all heart related tests and all good. But still apprehensive about pushing my heart thru exercise.

You are just sensitised to the feelings. There is nothing wrong with your heart of you have done all the tests. Carry on as normal.

Why does anxiety cause heart palps ??

Hopefulone profile image
Hopefulone

Research "stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (Ralaxation). This will relax you. Definitely don't worry, this keeps things going and stimulates the sympathetic nervous system (stress).

Also look up and listing to audio books in iTunes by Claire Weekes. She has cured me if my anxiety symptoms without medication. Good luck

If you have been to the doctor and given the all clear, this is nothing more than a symptom of anxiety. Your nervous system is very sensitive at the moment and you are feeling things that you otherwise wouldn't. These feelings can't harm you. If you worry, this is SECOND FEAR, you are telling your brain there is something wrong, so guess what happens??? Yes, you feel worse and more sensitive, feeling very worried and nervous. I have been through all this. I am better now. I still get mild feelings in my heart at night but I certainly don't pay any attention to it. I just think " if I can feel my heart beating it means I am alive lol. You download the audio books by Claire Weekes. She is a doctor that knows the ins and outs with 40 years experience. Good luck.

Hopefulone, just another question why is it I can feel great in the morning sometimes eat lunch then bang my heart races to just over 100 and I feel real wonky , un balanced and feel faint ??

Hopefulone profile image
Hopefulone in reply to Jodz

It can happen at anytime. Before I answer your questions can I ask if you suffer with depression? Are you a worrier? Are you sensitive?

Jodz profile image
Jodz in reply to Hopefulone

I worry about every little thing it's rediculous . Have my days I can feel down but not such as depressed . Ok for example I went for a lovely relaxing horse ride this morning . Then this afternoon I was out side washing float with pressure washer and could feel my heart rate up , so left it for ten minutes and still felt up so checked it , it was 158 per minute . Why the hell would this happen as I felt fine so I ignored and checked again and still up , went and took a Kalma over an hour ago and is now 116 . Why why does this happen ? God I ave had enough has to spoil my day now I'm in side stressing

OK. This is what I thought. Because you are a worrier you are causing a reaction in your body and this is how it happens. In your brain you have a tiny gland called Amygdala. It responds to stress and worry. It is very fast to react and can save your life. It can cause you to jump out of the way of a speeding car even before its in sight. It is connected to Every part of your brain and has probably saved your life several times by causing quick responses and releasing the flight or fight response. You see, it feeds off other parts of the brain and if you are a constant worrier like me you can throw it off balance and it gets confused as to what a dangerous situation is and when it really needs to act and send signals to release adrenaline. So, when it is in this state it will send these signals at inappropriate times. If you then panic or get worried about the symptoms that are produced this will send signals to the Amygdala that it is correct and will send yet more adrenaline. You see the spiral???

The way out is to embrace the symptoms and relax. Don't feed the Amygdala false feedback. Learn relaxing techniques and retrain the way your brain is working. Also look up sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. You are in a heightened state of sensitivity. Download Claire Weekes audio books "Hope and help for your nerves ". And there is another too. Follow through and get well.

I was a mess in the summer. I'm better now. I can slow my heart rapidly by stimulating my parasympatheticnervous system. Loads of videos online. Your nerves will heal if you just let them. Your body WANTS to heal if only you let it by not worrying so much and allowing your mind to rest. That's all.

Jodz profile image
Jodz in reply to Hopefulone

If I could slow my heart rate down that would be awesome . 😀

OK. Two things you can do. Lay down relax. Place your hand in your belly button area. Slowly breath in, hold for six seconds then slowly release the air through your mouth. Repeat for 5 mins. The other thing you can do. Run some cold water in the sink. Hold you're breath and put your face in for around 10 seconds. Repeat this three times. These things will stimulate your parasympathetic nerves. They cancel sympathetic nerves (the stress nerves).

Ok thanx , I do the breathing thing and it does nothing . But I haven't tried the cold water. Also I have just listened to a bit of Claire Weekes and she sounds amazing , but I'm having trouble downloading . And I'm after one about panic attacks , how to stop and racing heart . Can you help me here please

everyones heart skips and misses, speeds up and so on. Some of us just have th misfortune of feeling these events. It's like anything anxiety related try not to let it bother you. Easier said than done I know. I've given up trying to pinpoint what makes me feel them because that's just added stress in itself.

A lot of people have skipped heartbeats and don't even notice it. Sometimes it's just from stress or for women, can be hormone-induced. A few years ago, I went to the ER after getting rear-ended and the doc discovered my heart was acting funky. I also found out I was pregnant that day, so I accepted that the palpitations were because of that (hormones). Since then I've been seeing a cardiologist. During the cardiology appointment after delivering my baby, I was told I have mild mitral valve prolapse. I was having a lot of anxiety recently and went in for a check up since my heart was racing way too often and had palpitations. Caught an episode of svt on the ekg. I'm now on beta blockers to slow my heart rate and reduce palpitations. I think my body is adjusting to the meds and it's starting to help! I had to completely cut out caffeine and I'm trying to avoid any stressors. If you got a full heart check up and they said you're fine, try not to worry about it. You'll be fine. If you're not convinced, maybe see a cardiologist or electrophysiologist. Maybe you can get something to help if it's happening so often.

Jeskah over the last 7 years I have had ecg , 24 hour heart monitors , stress test and all good . Have not had one for about 2 years . But yes I'm very very aware of every little twinge in my body including my heart . I just need to try stop focusing on it but it's bloody hard . The joys of having a panic disorder , but thanx

Hello. I go through this too. Don't worry there is nothing wrong with your heart. I went to the hospital too because of heart palpitation, i had an ECG done and there was nothing wrong too fortunate. Whenever you feel like having palpitation, breath calmly and think of something positive. And remember that you are not alone. There are other people like u and me who goes through this. Take care 😊

Getting confirmation that your heart is fine from the doctor should help you a lot knowing nothing is wrong with you. It's jjust all in your head that's making you worry and go crazy. I still get anxiety but I know it's anxiety and I"m perfectly healthy according to my doctor to I'm okay now.

I have had heart palpitations, and PVC's for almost 40 yrs on top of panic disorder. There is no rhyme or reason as to what starts them up or how long they will last. It feels like a huge fish out of water flopping around. Lately they are more frequent and stronger. I do take meds for my panic disorder. I have been to the cardiologist......I am now on a low dose of a beta blocker to slow my heart down, but it still does it. I know the thoughts and fear that go through your mind. My left arm/shoulder often ache when they are frequent. Someone told me when they are bad to pinch your nose closed, close your mouth and "blow" it does seem to stop them for a bit. The majority of palpitations are harmless unless you have underlying heart disease....of course having this told to you really doesn't help when they scare the daylights out of you!! They can let you wear a halter for a few days to monitor them, but in all likelihood you will be told "nothing serious", some people don't even notice them. I truly wish you the best of luck. I do understand.
