I have been on the above medication for 12 months (approx.). Saw Dr 6 weeks ago who advised he wanted to reduce my dose from 45 - 30 mgs for 6 weeks, then 30-15 mgs for 6 weeks then stop.
I have been on 15 mgs now for 4 days but feel my anxiety is getting worse. Is this normal. I am also on venlafaxine

Hi joeglas, anytime you are reducing long term medication, it will and does cause the anxiety to get worse for a while. It is very normal to experience while your brain readjusts to a lower dose. As you come down with the dosage, do not up it under any circumstances. You will just be spinning your wheels. It is better to go a little longer (no more than 1 week) on the lower dose., Hopefully knowing that the symptoms will break through will help you cope with them and not be afraid. Once you are off the med completely, still allow yourself time to let your brain heal. Believe me, once off the med, you will continue to get less and less breakthroughs and more and more days of feeling good. Hang in there.
Your reply got me thinking about my medication I have been taking fluxitine for two years now and show no signs of being able to stop. It's gets me through each day it's a battle but at least helps me start the day. However like I say after reading your post I wonder if one day I could try coming off my medication slowly of course.
Lozlee007, only with your doctors approval. We are all different according to our health history. The weaning process must be done slowly to avoid any complications such as seizures. Slow and steady is the best. Having support is very important from your doctor and your family or friends. Of course with the forum now, that could offer you help on those bad days. Please look into it and know all the benefits as well as side effects. I wish you well whatever you decide. Take care.
