Before you read, I posted this in an arrythimia forum for help, didn't really get a response so I'm showing you all this in hopes maybe you all expirence this too and can give me insight or if this is even anxiety, I'm doubting it a lot because I am not anxious when it happens, I know if my anxiety is up, and it's not when this occurs, another piece of proof is the fact my pulse is low lying down and Standing up sky rockets.... Anyways here it is.....
So first and foremost I'm Josh, I am a 31 year old male, I do have anxiety (lately starting to question this)
Now please don't be bias about the anxiety, I'm just trying to be open and honest and I have a bad feeling many rush to anxiety as the answer when it's there.
My issue
I notice that during the day, same time daily, 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm my heart when I stand up starts racing to 120 bpm right when I stand. When I lay down it goes down to the 80s. This is only during the evening during them hours..... When I go to bed at night, 9:30 pm I notice that my pulse dips down to the upper 50s when I'm about to fall completely asleep or really relaxed, my question is,
One is this normal? I have had echo back in March on my heart and it was clear, isotope stress test came back clear, 5 ekgs, all clear, heart monitor showed a few pvcs (anxiety related) but clear, I quit smoking over 4 weeks ago...... Cold Turkey.....
Also when I noticed this starting up, I noticed that My BP went from 130s-120s over 80s every day all day to flucuating all day. Standing it can be 120s over 80s sitting 108 to 120 over 70s and lying down 95-105 over 60s and 50s...... Just alarms me is all that it went from steady to all over the place.
Biggest concern I have is that pulse of 120 standing, every day at the same time and I didn't do anything to raise it, usually I'm lying down or sitting reading and I'll just feel it spike so I check and it's that high, wish I could do a video of it. I know it sounds like pots but I'm just worried it's something else more serious and every doc that I've seen has said it's just anxiety..... Problem with that, I'm not anxious when it happens, I get anxious after because I don't understand why Its doing it.
Anyways thanks you all.

Hi Josh, I might have asked you before if you have ever been checked for Dysautonomia. I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse first and then the anxiety came along. I did not understand why I was feeling so bad and like you, that caused anxiety to take over. It is a hereditary disorder not really a disease but more of an anomaly. There are some patients who display symptoms while in different positions that's where dysautonomia comes into play. It would be worth having checked out. It's done by a tilting table test where you are strapped in and tilted to see if any symptoms come on while in different positions. Other than that, like you, I don't see the b/p changes coming from just anxiety either. I truly hope you get this figured out. Maybe by going to a hospital that specializes in MVP and Dysautonomia you could get some answers. It is life changing to go through this everyday.
Thanks and yes you did but I kinda dismissed it because I didn't have the low BP associated with it. I am kinda getting sick of the doctors at the VA, I finally said to hell with Veterans and went to a private hospital and the doc there said something just sounds off from all of this, he said it doesn't meet typical anxiety or panic disorder, he thinks whatever it is, is causing the anxiety and panic disorder, cardiology from university of cincinnati is sending me a 30 day event monitor and hopefully that will show them what I'm talking about. Its aggravating and I hate constantly posting about it but it's bothering me pretty bad now. Just feels better talking about it and thank you for trying and helping me. Just exhausted. I mean if ekg and echo show clear from march, not much could have changed in that amount of time right? I should be ok......
I'm just so sorry it's still going on but then again nothing has changed in addressing it? If it were MVP the doctors would hear the murmur. It's more to do with the b/p fluctuation. Maybe something will show on the 30day monitor that will help in getting a diagnosis other than anxiety. I really wish you well. Please don't apologize for posting, who knows Josh, you may just get someone who reads it and has been through the same thing. That's what this forum is all about support, understanding and advice. Take care. Hope you have a relaxing Thanksgiving.
I also have mitral valve prolapse which is easily identified with an echo. An abnormality that is probably genetic and fairly common. I went to a hospital in Birgingham Alabama that specializes in this condition and had a series of tests
That resulted on their prescribing a calcium channel blocker to minimize
The symptoms. Dig in and stay the course until you get the medical answers that you can live with.
Hi josh, I also have this problem. My hr is usually in the 60s when Im laying down but will jump around to the 100s when I stand up. I suspect it's pots but I haven't been tested for it. The weird thing is that this pots went away for 3 days last week and then it came back after I got a mini panic attack at my friends house. After the panic attack, I felt my heart racing again and I knew the pots thing had come back. I was so happy when I didn't have it for those 3 days.
summary ; 2 months of anxiety, 45 posts and several doctor appointments. Everyone has stated your results are within normal limits, no one can find a physical problem.
You are working on increasing your anxiety by continuing to post on the same subject and also even making videos about it.
Cant you see you are creating your own future as a chronic anxiety person with health anxiety?
Yea well doctors I'm seeing now disagree, a heart rate of 120 to 140 is not normal when you go from sitting to standing and aren't doing anything else, the issue is, doctors don't know what's causing it and it causes symptoms in me, dizziness, shortness of breath and head aches, that's why they're concerned. Just driving me up the wall.
I sympathize anxiety seems to be a catch all diagnosis after standard tests prove negative. It would be so refreshing to have a doctor simply tell a patient that
They acknowledge the symptoms but simply do not have the knowledge to
Address their suffering. In the mean time
Ask for a heart monitor that will record your heart activity 24 hours .
I'd suggest you do a lab testing for 24hr urine cortisol. Morning blood tests don't show a thing.I had and still have fluctuating b/p and going from low pulse up to 125 beats and the culprit was low adrenal function caused by stress
You will have to insist to convince your doctor that it is not just anxiety. Actually, anxiety & panic attacks are symptoms of adrenal impaired function. Not many out there willing to diagnose adrenal insufficiency unless it comes to Addison's or Cushing's.Personally ,I have been to 29 doctors in 5 year time just to be charged for an all-in-you-head diagnosis, because the symptoms were very weird.Fortunately I was diagnosed by the 29th doctor.Good luck
Basically yes. Conventional medicine doesn't recognize it as a medical condition. It can be debilitating though and it can trigger/cause many unpleasant conditions that conventional medicine does recognize. But who wants that..In my case adrenal fatigue advanced to insufficiency.
Well if you really want to go for it (Phaeochromocytoma) then you will need to check a 24 hour urine for catecholamines . It's pretty rare and you would usually have episodes with very high blood pressure (over 200)
