About 3 months ago I had a routine eye test, & the optician saw some changes to the back of my eyes. She gave me a letter for my gp to be referred to hospital to check it out. She reassured me that it was most likely natural ageing changes, & they just wanted to make sure. Iv`e been scared silly for the last 3 months thinking that she was lying to me, & that something serious is going on. When I think about it I shake with fear, because going blind has always been one of my worst nightmares.

Opthalmology appointment tomorrow.
Hi,
Going blind is my biggest fear, i have an autoimmune condition which causes retinal vasculitis flare ups often so I have lost some vision. However, i hope to reassure you a little- I went to optician with vision problems and when they first saw my retinas/back of my eyes i was referred immediately to an eye specialist, same day, and he said there was mild/low grade inflammation at the time. It was minor at the time - they don't mess about with eyes, I promise!
They got to the bottom of my eye problems and although its a multisystemic condition, my eyes are being taken great care of the most.
Given yours seems to be a routine appointment it's looking good! If there is a problem, they'll take care of it. I LOVE hearing my eye professor say "I think we are good for 3-4 months!" It means nothing much is going on.
Good luck xx
Hi, as Allinthemind has said, professionals do not lie, they only want you to get the best possible attention regarding your sight. It might be slight age related macular degeneration, either dry or wet. I have dry mac in both eyes and I am nowhere near blind yet and am 73 yrs old. It might get worse as I get older, but I have constant check ups with Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, UK. and so far, it hasn't got worse since I was diagnosed. I also had a stroke that damaged my optic nerve, but can still see reasonably well. So try not to worry too much. If it had been really serious, you would have been transferred to an eye clinic immediately (such as a detached retina or any other really bad diagnosis. Let us know how you get on..regards, Val.
I went to my appointment, & spent most of it sitting around in the waiting room. They checked my eye pressure several times, & kept putting different kinds of drops in them, the last lot made my vision blurry for a while. The result was that my eyes are ok, but they had some concerns about uneven eye pressure in each eye. One was 15, & the other was 20, but came down to 18 at a second test. I don`t have any eye diseases, but they want me to come back in 6 months just to make sure everything`s ok.
