Hi all, im new to this and anxiety. I dont know what caused it but ive been diagnosed with anxiety and im on citalopram 10mg a day and i keep feeling tired, weak muscles and have no motivation to do anything. Does anyone have any tips on how i can feel a bit better or to cope better? I get nervous incase its a serious thing and paranoid to go to sleep incase i dont wake up etc. Just thought id pop on here and see if anyone feels the same as im only 23 and might put my mind at ease a little.

Thanks :)

Hi adam_pekk....I just sat down for a moment, felt a bit odd and thought I would check and see who else was about. I read your post and I have to say, I have been feeling almost exactly the same as you. I may have a few odd hours when I feel almost 'normal' but am struggling lately.

I am much older than you but have been a sufferer since I was young. Don't let that depress you though, as I have had remissions lasting years. It is my guess that you will get to grips with the physical symptoms of anxiety (which is an exaggerated and sensitised version of something that is natural and necessary in our lives). Once you have dealt with it it is possible that you will never be bothered with it again. Others find that they are prone to bouts throughout their lives, but manage to cope and live amazingly full lives. The more we try to fight the demon, the more 'air time' we give it and it can become like an addiction. It is the dizziness which really sets me off when I am in sensitive mode.

You should find the Citalopram very helpful. It worked wonders for me a few years ago when I was prescribed it. You may have to take it for a few months. Others take it for years. I have been having BP problems myself at the moment and some new BP meds did not agree with me so I am not sure whether my latest bout is to do with that. I am therefore not on any anx' meds. I have dealt with it on my own before so I am trying to do it again, with the help of some books by Dr Claire Weekes and a CD I have of hers. The books were written several years ago but her advice is all very relevant today. Amazon have them and downloads also.. Have a look and see. If I have to go onto Citalopram again I would maybe welcome the relief - even though I hate taking medication.

I have found that anxiety problems can disappear on their own when life settles - and usually without you even doing anything but biding your time. Taking the medication just gives your mind a chance to calm down and see things differently.

I wish you well. And, to be sure, you are not alone. I can relate to the scared to go to sleep bit too. Well, scared to go to bed when I am going through a bout of 'wobblies'. I will stay up half the night, read when I get to bed, or do crosswords until I can no longer keep my eyes open. I have often woken in the morning still wearing my glasses, with the lights on and a book in my hand. Sad or what? I then wonder why I don't feel very good when I get up. A few nights good sleep would no doubt work wonders. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so scary. Lol

Sorry for long reply. I wish you well and a hasty return to good health and a peaceful mind. Bless..

Hi, sorry you're struggling at the moment. Thought I'd share some of my thoughts to try help

The toughest thing is convincing yourself that anxiety symptoms although very real and horrible, they wont hurt you.

It's tough to keep on and on reassuring yourself and if like me you also suffer depression the motivation is really hard to keep up. Keeping yourself stress free is near impossible in 2016 but it's a good time to discover your hidden talents and interests and throw yourself into them for distraction and motivation.

If you fancy a duvet day with movies and chocolate then do so, don't give yourself a hard time.

Read through posts here and chat to others, there is some great advice and support here.

And lastly surround yourself with familiar supportive people, be open with them about your feelings and don't be afraid to ask for help. my biggest regret is not being open and seeking support from my GP etc with how I felt until I got crisis point..

You'll be fine :) it might just take a while 😊
