I have had a wonderful med for that for at least 20 years - it's called dicyclomine. The only side effect is feeling thirsty. The minute I begin to feel like someone is pressing their finger in the soft part of my throat, I take one. Thankfully, this doesn't happen more than once a month or so. I can also get tummy aches that start by my feeling very hungry when I shouldn't, and this works great for those. Works in about a half hour. I always keep it in my purse - a godsend!

Is that medicine available in the UK my throat feels tight around the adams apple area and sometimes it feels tight where the thyroid is

Well, of course I wouldn't know that - but it's been around a very long time, and a doctor would know that. When I get that sensation, it's called a spasmotic esophagus. An ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor I'm going to for something else) told me you could have a spasm down further and feel it up there. But given there are a number of structures there in that part of your throat, it would be a good idea to let a doctor check you out. If dycyclomine is all you need, it will put your worries aside. My wild guess about a thyroid (I'm not a doctor) is that if you had a tumor there, you'd have a lot of symptoms from that gland not working right (my son has Grave Disease and after the dr tried to save it for 4 years, they finally had to kill it with radiation and put him on med for life - the symptoms were shakiness and he got very thin). I will hope the magic of dicyclomine is what you need - a very little drug that seems to be safe.

That's the bummer about acid reflux - it can and often does happen with no feelings of heartburn. The way it started with me was a little hacking cough, especially at night, and oddly, it was worse if I lay on my right side and much better on my left. I told the doctor that when I went ot see him and he smiled - I guess it's typical. Just gotta not eat after dinner, too.

Well, me too, sort of. Mostly I can't eat Italian foods with tomato sauce for dinner unless I eat a little eatly and stay sitting up until bedtime. And on those nights I also take Tums at bedtime. It's the acid, not the spices that can be the issue for me.
