I've been on celexa for about 4 months.. is it normal to have good days and then the next day think about harming yourself?

Hey,

I think maybe going back to your GP and discussing this with them would be the best bet.

I don't know much about celexa admittedly so hopefully someone else that does will be along in a bit to answer your query properly :-)

Take care,

Hi graphjoc,

I took celexa for 6 months, and it did make me feel awful, tired all the time, sluggish really, but it did improve my anxiety. I also had off days too, I think you get them with any medication you take, especially with something like anxiety as so many factors can affect it. For example, tiredness, stress levels etc. Everyone has bad days unfortunately :(

Maybe try a different type of medication if you feel they are not working as effectively as you'd like. For example I tried sertraline, which also didn't work, its another type of SSRI but I don't think they're suitable, for me anyway, they effected my functioning way too much!

Maybe try a beta-blocker or a tricyclic anti-depressant. If you do want to try an alternative maybe discuss this with your GP, especially if you're having thoughts of harming yourself, as it is a really serious feeling, I'm sure you don't really want to harm yourself and I'm really sorry to hear you're feeling this way.

My advice would be to consider alternative medications as I feel there are more effective ones out there than celexa! I hope you're feeling better today and are no longer having these horrible thoughts! :(

Best wishes,

Lanah x
