Hey there

Sorry its a bad time for you but at least a diagnosis is good??

I believe sad is linked to the lack of sunlight and i think you can get daylight lamps for it?? Maybe something to look into??

Hope this helps

luv Ker xx

Ok thank you x

Hi Meg

As Anne has said the recommended treatment is light therapy I don't know if you have to buy your own lamp but a lot of people suffer with SAD so maybe you could ask your doc about it.

Think SUNNY Kenny xxxxx

Hi meg,

I think it's linked to lack of sunlight. I know sunlight is a good source of vitamin D.

The good news is that daylight is now increasing quite fast as spring approaches.

I guess you should try and get outside as much as you can. Even on a cloudy day you will be surprised how much solar radiation still gets though :-)

P.s it still maybe a little chilly for sunbathing! !

Sometimes getting outside is a problem ,as tend to suffer panic attacks,it seems to happen this time of year for awhile

Yeah that would be a problem.

I to have suffered panic attacks. They are really not nice.

But like my thepiest told me, when having a panic attack what's the worse what can happen?

Ive managed to put myself back in those situations and I'm still doing it. I'm trying to teach myself that I shouldn't worry about having a panic attack.

Its scary meg, it really is and ive really had to force myself.

But I can promise you that every time gets that little bit easier.

Awful as they are, keep telling yourself that they can't last that long. They always pass and you always recover.

:-)

I never used to be like this ,started bout 2yrs ago,I used to go everywere do anything ,and now have had 2attacks this week,it's been so awfull, yet if I'm with someone they never happen,I go shopping every sat with a very good friend as having osteo arthritis I can't carry heavy shopping ,we usually have breakfast out after ,I'm fine with this, yet the other day I went to Morrys and half way round supermarket it kicked off,big style iwas so scared

I know exactly what you mean Meg,

My trigger was actually 15 years ago when I nearly died falling off a tank. Every since then I have been afraid of heights. I had always manged it by avoiding heights, but during the last year or so it was becoming a lot worse.

I then had a full blown panic attack while I was driving on the M40. It only only me and my boy in the car. It was so scary, driving at 70mph and felt like I had completely lost control.

Ever since then my anxiety has been getting worse. I then decided to quit smoking and It went mad! Like you I was having panic attacks on a daily basis, completely tense all the time. You know what I mean, I'm sure.

I'm only now starting to recover, but I wont lie, it's been a real struggle. But now i feel completely different about my anxiety.

I tell myself I should not be scared of it, because no matter what or how awful panic attacks are, they don't last and you will always recover. But it takes time.

Apart from the SAD. Has your GP ever talked about CBT to you or self-help relaxation?

in reply to MMoo

No he hasn't,but it's given me something to think about

Hello,

I can't really add to what's already been said. I was diagnosed with s.a.d. about 15 yrs ago. I do use a light box every morning. Usually start Sept/Oct. til april.......basically when the clocks change in the uk. Some years I can get along not using all the time. ..However by dec-feb I always need it. Without the light therapy. ...I actually feel like my body and mind just wants to hibernate. .I feel like everything just wants to shut down.. I have all the symptoms of depression...but my psychiatrist agrees with me that I am not actually depressed. Cos if I use the light box. .I can function relatively normally. Antideperssants can help. But for me I've been at my best without them as they just added to that foggy feeling mentally.

U can look online at s.a.d. sites and do some research about boxes. I'd also contact some of the companies. .cos they might be willing to give u a loan of a light box to see if it helps....try before u buy. Hope you find something that works for you. Kath xx

Hi Meg.

As far as supplements go I suppose Vit D would be the one as it is mostly produced by sunlight, also in oily fish & fortified spreads & cereals. The nhs website says

•people aged 65 years and over and people not exposed to much sun should also take a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms (0.01mg) of vitamin D

However, there's nothing there to suggest it helps with s.a.d.

If getting out is difficult could you spend some time sitting by a sunny window? Can't hurt.

There's some info here nhs.uk/Conditions/Seasonal-...

Hope you find something that helps :)
