New Medication - Worried about side effects.

Hi Everyone,

I have after numerous tests been diagnosed as having high blood pressure. My GP has prescribed some tablets for me to take. I am to take one tablet every night at bed time. My GP when I asked her about side effects said that I may feel dizzy after the first tablet and that that was the reason for taking it at bed time. She did not mention any other side effects. When I got the prescription I read the leaflet inside. There seemed to be a long list of possible side effects and I became very anxious about taking the medication.

I rang my surgery this morning and explained my concerns. I asked the nurse whether I could for a few days take a lowest dosage of the medication just to see how I reacted to it. The nurse was very understanding and has prescribed me a 7 day course of the medication at the lowest dose that is manufactured. I am still very anxious about taking the medication but know that I need it to control my blood pressure.

Can you give me you thoughts on the best way of dealing with this challenge.

The problems with possible side effects is that they have to list them all even if only a few people have had a reaction. Try not to get to focused on the side effects. All these drugs have to have loads of tests before they are put on the market. Take care

Thanks is is really appreciated.

hi moley, holly is right they have to list everything, but having h/b can be bad for you as well ( you havn"t said how high it was or what tablets you are taking ) but the the tablets are very good at bringing down h/b.so please do not worry too much because there are millions of people on them. take care x

Hi I am taking a tablet called Rampiril. I had 24 hr bp monitoring and had an average of 150/94. Thanks for your thoughtful message.

The effects of leaving your bp untreated far outweigh the possible side effects of the prescribed medication. I have high bp and the list of possible side effects on my tablets is long and serious looking. I only ever got a slightly annoying little cough! Take the tablets... If you're suffering from anxiety you may be surprised how many of your symptoms clear up once your bp is sorted x

I read everything about the medication I take and I do take quite a few but have been prescribed Penicillin which would kill me if I took it, hence the double checking of medication. I have been prescribed Lyrica to take as well as 5mg x 3 times Diazapam. I took one and felt awful, does anyone else take it please. Thank you..
