hi everyone

this is quite a long story. So I’ll cut to the chase. Has anyone experienced serotonin syndrome before while also coming off the gabapentin medication? I’m experiencing serotonin syndrome and gabapentin withdrawals at the same time :(

I experienced a mild form when I was out on Prozac.

I've heard gabapentin is a tough med to come off of.

I'm sorry you are going through all this

That's good!

I hope you feel better soon :)

I took 900mg of gabapentin a day for 7 years, initially I had itchy skin and my vision dumbed down but whilst I was taking it for lower back pain (neuropathic pain) it worked, reducing my pain scale from an 8 to a 4. Then they took me off it, worst nightmare of my life!!! I wouldn't advise my worst enemy of ever taking gabapentin. It stops the Gaba in your brain but when Gaba was re-introduced into mine I had a complete mental breakdown and 18 months of therapy of dealing with emotions and relationships. If you have only taken it for 6 weeks I would advise you try and keep off it.

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s the worst when we aren’t advised what can happen when starting this medication! I certainly wasn’t anyway :( yes I’m never going on it again.

I haven't had serotonin syndrome, but I took gabapentin for anxiety for 2.5 years, just took my last dose last week! I took 400mg 3x a day and slowly tapered off per my doctor's directions. I didn't have any withdrawals, just a temporary increase in anxiety each time I reduced the dose. I didn't realize you could have withdrawals from gabapentin. Have you been taking a high dosage?

Yes I’ve been having withdrawals. I was only on 400mg once a day for 6 weeks. But I’m very sensitive to medications and have a lot going on in my life so I don’t handle change very well
