I just started taking Zoloft for my anxiety. My doctor started me on 25mg per day for two weeks and now I'm bumped up to 50mg per day. He said it won't make me feel like a zombie, but instead it should level out my peaks and valleys of emotions. My highs won't be as high and my lows won't be as low. He also said it may take awhile for me to feel the effects. But I'm not sure what I should expect. Any one able to possibly give me an idea of what they dealt with when first starting. I know not everyone is the same and medications will affect people differently. Jus hoping for some guidance.

Hi, Here are some Signs that your antidepressant is working include improved mood, decreased symptoms, and feeling less preoccupied by your mental health. For me I didn't just notice it over night it took about 2 months and after a few dosage adjustments. Things / Life just started to seem a bit easier. My panic attacks weren't as frequent. I've tried a few SSRIs before I found what worked well for me. Before I found the right one I've experienced some uncomfortable symptoms (not with zoloft). It's actually been a few years since I've been off my SSRI (Prozac)
Early on there may be days that make you feel uncomfortable; extra anxiety, restlessness or worry.
There might be a day or two where you feel like it isn’t working and you want to bail. Even some days of agitation or discomfort.
Eventually, you might begin to feel a little less burdened and then start to stack consecutive good days.
No matter what though, everyone’s experience might be similar but none are the same.
Good luck my friend.
And may the force be with you.
hi, I have recently been prescribed sertraline after 13 years of being on citalophram. In my opinion sertraline is a slow burner it has taken me 5-6 weeks to get to a place where I feel “ normal”. I’m on 50mg and some of the side effects I encountered were dizziness/ lightheaded and my anxiety was heightened but it did stop my panic attacks, I felt like I would of had a panick attack but it felt dull and more manageable to overcome. About 2 weeks in I started to worry that it wasn’t going to work for me but I carried on, I’m now on week six and feeling good. You’ve got this!
I felt better on it after 1 week. I've been on and off of it for 20 years. Before Zoloft I tried 3 or 4 other meds. I felt the best on 25 mg along with 400 mg of SAM E and fish oil. Mindfulness also helps and so did a a class with Dr. Aimee.
Like you said. Not everyone is same. I am 62 and last year was prescribed Zoloft 25mg for the first two weeks and continue with 50 mg. It was right after my father’s passing and I felt awful. After 4 months I realized it didn’t do much for me and actually I became more depressed. My friends advised me to increase the dosage. I decided to quit and slowly tapered down. I started walking more and keeping busy. I think our feelings control most parts of our body including the brain. Not easy all the time but I keep meditating and distracting myself from negative thoughts. Do I have bad days? Ofcourse I do. But nothing I can’t handle so far. So if your doctor believes you need it, and you believe you do ,give it a try. Wishing you the best.
