Hi I'd be thinking of making an appointment with the Doc if you are thinking the meds aren't working yet.

Sertraline is fluvoxamine, isn’t it?

That could be the exact same one my friend took but it doesn’t matter - they’re all quite alike, the SSRIs and Snris.

For me, the fact that you feel worse right now is a sign this stuff is going to work. My friend begged his doctor to have him committed to a mental hospital when he was in the first period of fluvoxamine. Begged. She said please just hold on.

It worked for him for the rest of his life. He built his own company and had a good life.

If I were you I’d hang in there, you’re very close. Mind you - for me, those drugs take fully 3 months and sometimes 4 months to start working. They’re said to have a longer onset wait when your chief complaint is severe anxiety rather than ‘just’ depression. Is that the case for you?

No Sertraline is the generic name for the brand name Zoloft. Fluvoxamine is the generic name for Luvox. But you are right they are both SSRIs so have similar action.

Hang in there. I’ve heard a lot of people that use it say 8 weeks and then the good started coming. You’re almost there. Are you getting a lot of physical side effects?

Hello CurryQu: I think I have a possible answer. Please note: On one hand, I am not a professional; on the other hand, I also take setraline and I see a psychiatrist who advises me, so part of what I'm going to say I am passing on from someone who is a professional. The maintenance dosage for setraline is between 100-200 mg/day. If you are taking 50 mg, that is not sufficient to resolve anxiety and depression. 50 mg is ONE HALF of the MINIMUM maintenance dosage, so you are yet a long way from efficacy and must just "hold tight." Dosage increases are highly constrained. Further, it takes an average of two weeks for the new dose (and the original dose) to reach steady state. To recap, there's a strong possibility that the reason you are continuing to suffer is because you have not yet reached your maintenance dosage. Please share my comments with your psychiatrist to confirm (or not) that my explanation is correct.
