Insomnia Support for New Member

I’m new to this group and am looking for support regarding anxiety-induced insomnia, which is a new issue for me, stemming from some significant situational stressors. There are some nights where I don’t sleep at all, creating a spiral of increased anxiety during the day and then added anxiety in the evening regarding sleep. I have good sleep hygiene and have tried various CBT-I strategies. While I understand that overthinking “sleep” is probably making the problem worse, my anxiety brain is set at that default right now—wishing so hard that I sleep that it results in the opposite . It’s important to add that I believe perimenopausal hormones (or dwindling hormones) are very likely a contributor to my sleep/anxiety symptoms. I am very sensitive to medications and have had bad experiences with several antidepressants. Any support, including med/supplement/hormone suggestions, is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I suffer the same thing and the more you don't sleep the more anxious you become. I've found that taking one of the travel sickness medications that you can buy from any chemist works well for me if I've had two or three sleepless nights.

I settle down with some warm milk with a spoonful of honey, take a couple of the tablets and listen to some white noise after practicing some relaxing mindfulness.

I don't like taking anything from the Dr for sleeping.

I hope you find some good tips here.

Best wishes.

K.
