I am new to this. I am living with social anxiety. I have had it for years and want to learn how to minimize the impact on my life. It causes some problems with work and causes me to avoid situations like family gatherings. Does anyone else struggle with this? How do you manage?

Welcome to the community.

I'm sorry you are struggling with social anxiety, many of us understand that.

Through therapy and pushing myself I was able to calm myself and get used to social things. I have to be honest though, I'm not a fan of social gatherings at all

Wishing you the best

Thank you! It helps to know that I am not the only one who has difficulty in this area.

Hi! I have struggled since an early teen with social anxiety. In my late 20s I was put on a medication for my anxiety and it has helped. I still have times where I get overwhelmed. I focus on my breathing and try to find a spot away from people until I am okay. I typically try to bring a friend or my husband with me to places.

Bringing someone else along is a great idea.

I am on meds for social anxiety and it has helped some. Some days are better than others and I always feel better when I accomplish my goals to go out and be with people. I often hide out away from people as an introverted person.

Welcome. I am a newbie too. This is a safe place. I wish you well👍😀

I have recovered from social anxiety and my suggestion is that you find a therapist near you that specializes in treating it. They may incorporate group and exposure therapy as part of the process as well as teaching you new skills and understanding so you can heal. For whatever reason your perception of how others perceive you and how you perceive them is flawed. If there aren't any therapists near you, you can check out Sebastiaan at social-anxiety-solutions.com as well as his youtube channel. He has a lot of good info on social anxiety, healed himself and now helps others. He also has a affordable course that looks good.
