headaches with anxiety
I live with chronic headaches and cluster migraines...and try live a life in between the bouts that are too painful to function. I'm sure my liver is shot from taking paracetamol....but since menopause...and long covid.... this is my new normal.
I get pressure headaches on the sides and back of my head
I have had terrible headaches since I was a little girl. I was born with anxiety, depression and ADHD. I’ve had lidocaine injections in the base of my school. I’ve taken so much migraine Excedrin ( used in the U.S.) that I have burned the inside of my stomach and thinned my blood.
I can't take the kind of Excedrin that contains aspirin and caffeine because my stomach is very sensitive. They make a version with the caffeine but without the aspirin. That may be safer for you, it is for me. When my headache is bad enough, I add some strong coffee. It seems to make it work better.
l get tension headaches when l am anxious or have stress in my life. It’s like a tight band around the head and sometimes it feel like numbness. It goes as soon as l relax but is so draining. Try shutting your eyes and doing deep breathing.
They are truly awful and they give me even more anxiety. I can have one for two weeks straight 😵💫
Yes, they can go on. It’s tension of the scalp muscles. I tense my whole body when anxious and hold my breath. Had to learn deep breathing which seems to help all that. They are awful to live with and really get you down. The only cure is to relax, but sometimes that is very hard to do.
I think I was born with a headache!! Migraines, occipital, tension and a lovely thing called an ice pick headache. The best thing I have come across so far is Emgality monthly shots. Riztriptan for break through headaches and ice. Someone posted the ice cap, a wonderful invention. I’m getting injections at base of my head in a few months. My anxiety level is so high that I scrunch my shoulders up all the time unconsciously. The pressure in my neck is horrible. Hoping it’s going to help. I’ve tried physical therapy and dry needling with no relief. Massage is short term relief.
I have lost too much of my life to debilitating headaches. For me, the key is prevention - once they start I am in urgent care screaming in pain. Dehydration coupled with stress often brings them on, so drinking electrolytes helps, as does progressive muscle relaxation - I use a number of the free YouTube videos. Also, I am a big fan of the metal Jellyfishesque scalp massagers. I bought two on Amazon for around $6, and it looks silly but it is one of the most simple and effective things I've found to help relax my face.
