food anxiety

I’m a little anxious. I got Chipotle for dinner and everything seemed cooked and fine. I got steak in my bowl. But as I was eating I came across a piece that was so chewy and rubbery. I think it was just a chunk of fat but I’m worried it was raw meat and that I’ll get sick

Hi Daisy, It sounds more like a piece of gristle/fat you found. You should be fine.

At least it wasn't a bone where you broke a tooth. Enjoy your evening dear. :) xx

I come across pieces like that, usually gristle like Agora said. It's pretty common for the type of steak they use. Hope your doing well!

I remember when I was a kid and I got chipotle for the 2nd time in my life. I got a burrito with pork instead of chicken this time around. I was enjoying my burrito 🌯 when I bit into something that was very bitter. Turns out it was a leaf 🌿 and I freaked out. My mom looks at it goes "Honey, that's a basil leaf, they use it in cooking. You'll be fine." I didn't know basil came like that. I was so used to seeing the basil in a jar already crushed up 😂

It's more likely fat. Which as a kid I used to love to eat it. Now not so much. Texture thing.

I remember as a child, my father yelling at me to eat the piece of meat I had put on the side of the plate. I said I couldn't - it was too tough. my mum looked at it and pronounced it to be grissle. So that's what you found. It's not chewable with human teeth!

In my experience....if steak has a rubbery taste....it's usually either 1) Overcooked....or 2) not as fresh as it should be...(and by that I mean that it isn't freshly processed from the meat locker.....but isn't spoiled or bad...)...it has also been my experience that 1 undercooked bite isn't as worrysome...pretty sure you'll be fine.....
