I might need to change my meds

Against_the_current profile image

I might need to visit a new psychiatrist in my city and change .y meds but I'm scared because i have withdraw symptoms such as nausea which is a major trigger. And everytime i try to start a new med, i get terrible symptoms. I don't know how my family will treat me withdrawing, starting new meds, starting therapy, not being able to work, them triggering me, forgetting everything, needing reassurance and hugs which they mostly can't provide

If you do visit a new therapist with any sense, he or she should take in account your withdrawal symptoms and give you medications, like anti-nausea drugs, to alleviate them.

I hope so. I'm researching psychiatrists in my hometown and im scared. Here they're better but i need someone to keep an eye on me/be able to go to if things go south and i don't think my insurance works here

Research is smart. Interview a couple psychiatrists to see which one feels like the better choice. Check with your insurance to find out what it will cover and in what cities. Good for you for taking these steps to get help!

I'm doing my best to make it the best way. The thing is that some psychiatrists have contract and it's not written in my insurance

Insurance can be both a huge help and a major hindrance at the same time.

Hi,Sending you big hugs 🫂 from Australia.

A long slow taper (term for going off a drug) should do the trick. If you get side effects, go back to the dose before and start again.

Changing doctors is easier if have prepared a short medical history before your appointment.

Include conditions, the treatments, how long you took 💊 meds for and why you stopped 🤔

Don't worry about what family will think. Be willing to do what's good for you. You have our support all the way. 🐈‍⬛
