Anxiety attack during work?

I’ve worked remote for 4 years and my anxiety started almost 2 years ago so I’ve never had an attack at work. I had a bad attack last night as I thought of what I’d do if I had an attack at work as my new job requires going into an office starting next week.

Does anybody have suggestions on handling a bad anxiety attack in the work place? All I could think of was what would I do if it happened during a meeting or something. I was so afraid last night that I considered rescinding my offer and staying in my old position that’s remote. But I would lose thousands of dollars if I back out now. I don’t think there is any chance to go back. I’m excited about going in to work again when I’m not in an anxiety attack. I don’t know what to think. Thanks!

Hi,It normal to feel anxious about changing jobs. However, if your anxiety bothers you, I can recommend an excellent book called "Working in the Dark" by the author Dawn Fitter which deals with mental health in the workplace and "reasonable accomodations" that should be made for you.

If things become too uncomfortable and if the employer has an employee assistance program, contact the program for a few confidential sessions on coping techniques.

Dr Google is useful too but I prefer the personal approach, face to face.

Most people have anxiety or panic attacks because they are afraid of being embarrassed in front of others. There are some things that you can do to lessen your chance of having bad anxiety. These include breathing and relaxation exercises before you go to work or a meeting, medication, if it is appropriate, and therapy, either with a therapist or by reading helpful books on dealing with anxiety and depression. You may not be able to eliminating anxiety completely, but you can gain greater control over it.

Use the 567 method that's intentional breathing in 5 seconds holding it for 6 seconds and then blowing it out for 7 Seconds that automatically helps you relax. I also Journal and you could do that when you get home from work if you had a rough day or you could actually maybe have a notebook at work and do it during lunch to calm yourself. Slow intentional breathing is what I would do though that's my best advice to you. Don't be afraid to go into the office they'll be many warm and inviting and welcoming people there for you I'm sure. Wishing you the best of luck in your new position. Wishing you peace and well-being.

I am also praying that you do not experience any panic attacks at work don't forget the 567 method if you get into any trouble breathe in for 5 seconds hold it for 6 seconds and then let it out for 7 seconds and it calms you immediately. Hoping all is well keep in touch and let me know how you're doing.
