Hi I found this site tonite while looking for support. I have severe anxiety and depression. I really don't get support from my husband. He doesn't understand it! I am hoping to find some people to help feel like I am not alone.

Welcome to the community.

It's not uncommon that the people in our lives don't understand what we are dealing with. It's foreign to many people that haven't been through it.

We all understand and we are here to support you

Hello and welcome , I can assure you that you will find lots of support here, unfortunately many couples don't get support from their partners, through mainly because they don't understand the severity of their depression, it happens in the most stable of relationships.

Hi Gilbertannie67, Welcome. You are not the only one. This group is full of people just like you. My husband doesn't get it either. People at church don't get it. They said "have more faith" or "pray more." I call that toxic positivity. These are the symptoms of major depressive disorder. See if you can relate.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a mental illness defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM). The DSM provides the diagnostic criteria used by doctors for major depressive disorder (MDD) and all mental disorder diagnoses.

MDD Symptoms

The DSM major depressive disorder (MDD) diagnostic criteria require the occurrence of one or more major depressive episodes. Symptoms of a major depressive episode include the following:1

• Depressed mood

• Anhedonia (diminished loss of interest or pleasure in almost all activities)

• Significant weight or appetite disturbance (read more about: Depression and Weight Gain, Weight Loss)

• Sleep disturbance

• Psychomotor agitation or retardation (a speeding or slowing of muscle movement)

• Loss of energy or fatigue

• Feelings of worthlessness (low self-esteem)

• Diminished ability to think, concentrate and make decisions

• Recurrent thoughts of death, dying or suicide

• Longstanding interpersonal rejection ideation (ie. others would be better off without me); specific suicide plan; suicide attempt

Hi and welcome to the community! As others have said unless someone has experienced what we have they will not understand. My ex was supportive but obviously really didn't understand. I had him come to a couple therapy sessions with me just so he could hear what my therapist had to say. Some partners are willing to do that , others not so much. Don't know if you have a therapist but it's worth a try. Hope you find the support you need on here!

Hi….and welcome to the forum. It’s a great place to get advice & support from people that have been through or going through symptoms like u have described. Anxiety & depression are the hell of all illnesses & reach out at any time & there will always b someone that will chat with u.

I have been severely depressed & anxious for many years, but on new meds now & feeling lots better, but will never take my mental health for granted because I know how quickly things can change.

Please take care & I wish unwell 👍😀

Welcome Gilbertannie67! You’re definitely not alone. You’re seen and heard. Hang in there. Anxiety is a demon, but you can definitely rise from it and get it quieter.

You definitely are not alone. I told my husband that I am depressed and he told me that I am not. Sometimes people do not want to accept the reality of their loved ones.
