Hi guys, anyone got any tips to deal with low grade depression following a common cold? I suffered from a cold last week but the physical symptoms have all gone except for a lingering sinus issue. Mentally I'm feeling down, a bit anxious and surreal in my thinking which seems to be affecting my motivation to do things.
Anyone experienced similar bouts of depression/low mood post virally or got any tips on how to speed up recovery to feel normal again?
Cheers, Dave π΅βπ«

Hello Dave, I've never personally experienced depression due to a cold but I do deal with Depression in my everyday life. If your up for trying an herbal alternative to assist in treating your depression, I would look into St. Johns wort. As long as your not taking it along side of mental health medication, it could give you that extra help your needing. It can be found in any vitamin section of your local market. Also, eating eggs can increase dopamine and serotonin in your brain; have yourself some eggs brother. Blessings man.
Great advice, I never knew that about eggs!! I can't take St John's Wort due to me having to take meds for hypertension but I do take Ashwagandha and all the B Vitamins. I've suffered from Post Viral Depression before when recovering from Covid, I know it will go but I just want it to hurry up and disappear!! Cheers again!π

Great advice!!π I definitely have NOT been eating well while I was ill so I absolutely agree good foods will help plus I haven't been out running for over 2 weeks so, yes I'm missing my regular dose of happy endorphins from that. I'm upping my fluid intake and "cutting the cr*p", food wise, from tomorrow then after a couple of days I'm back out running so hopefully all this will helpπ€ Thanks for the great advice π
Hey Dave! Sorry to hear about what you're going through. This bug going around has sucked the energy out of people long term. Having low energy can definitely contribute. Keep in mind, your body is still fighting/repairing even though you don't have physical symptoms anymore. I actually have 3 friends going through the exact same thing right now. If I find out more I'll post it! Keep hydrated friend
Thanks for the great advice, like I said I've had this before post-Covid and I know it'll pass but I just want to speed it up and get back to feeling normal!! Cheers, Dave π
Hang in there and feel better soon. Def have experienced increased anxiety post anything physical so I think it just comes with the recovery and the being over the down time combo. Try to do some journaling or watching something you really like maybe reading or listening to a book. Anything that gets you occupied to not engage with the down feeling. It will pass soon. ππ»
I also suffered from a cold in the last few weeks which turned into a sinus infection and an ear infection. I am still not completely over it. The virus that I have just won't go away. I have a lingering cough and I don't have my energy back. Lack of energy can lead to depression. I would say to rest up as much as you can to get your energy back. It is normal to feel down when you aren't operating at 100%.
Dave, most colds will run their course regardless of whether you treat them or not. Having said that I am getting over a cold that affected my sinuses. Yes it gets you down and makes you physically weak but rest is the only thing that really helps. Just do what you can and the rest can wait. If you're lacking motivation set yourself some small goals ie get dressed in the morning, empty the bins etcMake them small and achievable as your mood improves you'll start to feel better.
