So I take 68 degrees F cold showers almost every day. I am wondering if anyone else takes them as well.
I’m not totally convinced on how they help with depression or anxiety. But science seems to support the facts.

It might not be my cup of tea lol however there is someone else on
this forum who believes in cold showers as well. Maybe they will respond
to your post. The only thing I can say is brrrr xx
Me too Agora, 🥶🥶
Howdy FightingTurtle! I don't think I am the member Agora is referring to, but I love cold showers. I am sure Andrew Huberman has done a podcast on it with temperature and duration recommendations 😜I generally shower after exercising and I think that the consensus now is not to do cold showers if you want optimal recovery for muscle growth... but it might be good for athletes that are looking for quick recovery for another performance. Anyway, I digress, but I love jumping in the local river from the mountains and that is REAL cold. I find it invigorating. I think I read or heard once that it is great for the nervous system because the cold gives your body something real and tangible to react to vs anxiety living in your brain 🤔
quick search showed a lot of stuff by him. I don't think I have llistened to this one yet hubermanlab.com/episode/usi...
Aloha LoveforAll41! Thanks for you response. Yeah Andrew Huberman did some podcasts on cold showers and the effects. I have also heard that cold showers helps burn up a type of fat called brown fat.
I generally do cold showers in the afternoon or evening. Not usually after my 40 minute to an hour walk.
And yes I do agree that cold showers help with muscle recovery. My ankles and soles of my feet sometimes cramps during my walk. And especially when I try to run for some parts of my walk. I still don’t do cold showers after I walk. But I use ice packs for the places that need the recovery. Then I still try to do use cold showers in the late afternoon or early evening. And the cold showers helps.
Jumping into your local river must be FREEZING COLD. I live in the central part of Hawaii. And the lowest it’s get is 57 degrees F (sometimes). The usual lowest is in the low 60s.
And I did not thought of the perspective of how the cold can be a tangible sort of stress for the nervous system. Thx
I sometimes enjoy the cold showers. And yes it can be refreshing afterwards.
😀 🤙
Another question I have is when you do cold showers or cold plunge in your local river, do you go with some discomfort at the beginning before your body adapts and get the enjoyment feeling?
When I do cold showers, there’s always discomfort to go through before my body adapts to the temperature and me liking and enjoying the temperature.
My son does. He is so healthy. He believes it has many benefits and I’ve tried it before a bit and it is so relaxing feeling afterwards.
