Don't know what's going on..

So I've been feeling like this for some years now, like what's going on and what am I even doing with my life. It's like I'm far behind in my life compared to others. And I still don't know what to do or to whom I should talk to.

I know the feeling. I've spent my entire life (which is close to double your age) up to fairly recently believing the negative. I've struggled to move forward and always compared myself to others. I started to change my narrative and I've seen real positive change. I am working with someone who utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It's been very helpful. I see progress from the work I put in.

It is by no means a quick fix. I am confident though, that it's necessary to change that negative way of thinking. What we say and think is so powerful. It becomes how we feel inside and how we perceive the world around us. As a thought experiment, what if you tried to look at the situation from another angle? Like to the possibility that you are not behind, you are simply here. Where you want to go from here is up to you.

Do you view yourself living your life or that of another? Whose journey are you truly on? If you aren't satisfied with the journey, why is that? Why do you feel the reasons you list have the weight they seem to? Perhaps, write your thoughts out about this. Then maybe you take it a step further and talk to someone you can trust who has an objective/outside viewpoint about it.

I can personally recommend choosing a Therapist of the CBT or DBT specialization. Of course there are other schools of thought. I would not choose a family member or friend. I would find it unlikely they can be truly objective in this. Though your circumstance may differ.

Therapists can give you tools, guidance on how to use the tools, an objective/outside viewpoint and encouragement. There are also books that can assist with the tools as well. Neither can make the changes for you, though. That will be your accomplishment.

Your journey is unique. Similarities with others is how we connect, not how we should be defined. That's my opinion of course. To me each life is special. Special doesn't mean it's been all roses. But to focus too much on the past, means to miss out on the present. Which in turn just creates more past to fret over. The same can be said for the future. Both the Past and Future have a place, but they should not overshadow the present. The present is where we truly live.

You can change your path. The hardest step is the first. Once you take one, you can take another. As many as YOU need. Within each of us, exists the ability. I encourage you to take that step and get tools to help you use that ability.

I wish for you good health, happiness, peace, and love.
