What do people with panic disorder has helped them the most?
Hi JasmineDec When struggling with Panic/Anxiety Disorder, it is best to be consistent
with methods that help you. Being put on medication, seeing a therapist can help you to
go forward. Although, it's not the full answer, it will allow you to find other methods
and tools to work on daily.
For myself, I've used daily Meditation & Breathing exercises before bed, upon awakening
as well as mid afternoon. I've done this for years which provides me with a wealth of
positive reinforcement that I can turn to when in need and stop an attack immediately
into going from 0 to 100... Breathing properly is the "key" to success I have found. It
took years of practice as well as accepting that these attacks are not dangerous. The
more we feed into the fear, the more the cycle of fear grows.
All in all, this is a learned behavior that we have developed.. Breaking this habit is
possible. Do not give up.. Believe in that this can be done with practice and consistency
Good Luck xx
It’s always a challenge to come up with something worth adding after you’ve replied, Agora. you’re so consistent too. You make everything seem so possible without it coming across as neither being easy or difficult. just simple and attainable and definitely worth the effort.
I’ve tried so many different things over the 4 years I’ve suffered:
Medication
Therapy: ITalk; face to face; group sessions; OT
Prayer
Suicide attempt
What helps me most is unconditional love from my husband of 46 years; my dog; phyisical exercise; and a very strong network of close friends who are non-judgemental, loving, supportive and always there for me.
I hope you are able to find what helps you. It’s taken me years to get to a point where I can reflect on my life and depression and have some understanding of why. I’m learning all the time and although I’m high at the moment I dread the lows which seem to be more frequent as the years go by.
Hi JasmineDec, I have the same ailments as you. I've found that exercise, a natural diet, medication, and making sure I see friends have all helped. I still get ups and downs, but they have got less powerful.
Hope you find what helps you xx
It does seem to relapse and remit.........but I have to remember that that is the nature of panic disorder.
It is truly like seeing the world through a different lens, when the panic remits.........I am able to enjoy life, rather than walk around in a panic "trance" like state, where I can't seem to get those thoughts out of my mind.
It seems that when the disorder is active, I will never have another moment of peace in this world..........but so far, if I wait long enough, it does remit.
Blessings and best wishes to you for the New Year............I know how sometimes having panic disorder and MDD can feel like a rollercoaster!
Thanks.
I’m with you all the way.
I’ve just edited my post, i mistyped 4 years instead of 42 years. My very first depression was 4 months after the birth of my daughter; my GP said it was not postnatal
