I'm a 64 year old woman and got a diagnosis of bipolar 2 a couple of years ago. I haven't been on any meds until now, but am finally taking the plunge as the prolonged severe depressive episodes have made life untenable. I'm looking at options for meds and Lamotrigine seems to get good reviews for prevention [mainly] and treatment of depression in bipolar 2 - seems to be better for depression than lithium as far as I can see. Seems it might also help the extreme anxiety. Has anyone got any experiences of it to share? I'd be super grateful. Thanks.

Any experiences of Lamotrigine for bipolar 2 depression?
Dear Bluebird
I take Lamotrigine for epilepsy. It is the third medication i have tried and it is the only one that has worked. Not a single episode since I started. I take 150mg twice daily and can honestly say I have suffered no side effects. No alterations in mood, working, exercise and socialising as normal, no sleep issues or fatigue, no issue eating and no unexplained weight gain or weight loss. Different medications work well for different people of course, but Lamotrigine has worked wonders for me personally. Hope this helps.
Hi bluebird59, bit late to answer but only joined recently. I hope you've found a good medication since. I've been taking Lamotrigine for 12 years (along with a cocktail of a few other medications) for my Bipolar 2 and it's helped keep me stable since then.
