Seeking a place for 22 year old daughter. Deciding between different places, but OCDI Texas one of them. She also has trauma, body dysmorphia and depressed a bit. Recent dx of OCD, actually. We always treated the anxiety, so not sure if her OCD is bad enough. (We live near Boston so we know McLean). 5 month wait still. Successful college gal except she just got to exhausted and asked for residential. Her therapist was only familiar with Milestones Onsite and Claudia Black Young Adult (Meadows) but I thought were way too old mentality and too AA and detox oriented. Other one researching is APN, Honeylake, Newport Institute, SierraTucscon (got horrible reviews), and many more! It's exhausting and scary.

Anyone else have any success with the residential OCDI Texas? Thanks

hi kaya, I am sorry that you have to look into this, but I think it is great your daughter is reaching out for help, especially while she can still succeed in school. I recently went to one in Utah (where I live) called recovery ways just for mental health. It helped me, but I am in my 30s and there was a surprising hookup culture among the teens and early 20 year olds there. I think there are all female eating disorder places (center for change) in Utah. It sounds like your daughter is going for the right reason and I think that the case is mostly that you will get out of it what you put in. I think probably most would work for her. I use binge eating as my unhealthy coping mechanism so I was looking for a place that also did eating disorders, but they are hard to come by for males... The anxiety definitely leads to the eating disorder and when that is managed I am okay with food, but I think it would have been nice to be among those with similar bad coping mechanisms too. Best of luck

Hello kaya2. I read your post and it looks like you are trying your best to help your daughter. It’s a lot of work and mentally and physically exhausting. Access to mental health care is limited and unpredictable.

Unfortunately, I have not had much luck with finding the right therapist or facility and gave up many years ago. My son seems to have the same issues with therapists. He also tried a day program which consisted of mostly group therapy which he did not like.

I’m am proud of you and your daughter for not giving up. It’s a battle worth fighting.

Sorry that I was not able to give you any help or recommendations, but you are going in the right direction and something will work out. In the meantime, I will pray for you and your daughter and send you good thoughts.

Thank you.
