Depression sponser?

I live in the United States and my counselor recently suggested I have a depression sponsor. She said to find someone who has gone through depression and can be there for me when I have my episodes until I can overcome my depression. I don't really have any friends and my family I can't really count on.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum. All forum members able to support you as you go on your personal depression recovery journey.

Our forum members are based in different countries so there is usually someone logged in 24/7.

If you prefer someone living in the USA and around your age, just post that here. We won't be offended.

Honestly miles don't matter to me. The personality and kind of person they are matter, plus I work an overnight job 830pm to 5am central time.

Hi, look at samosa.gov for some resources/ free mental health group meetings. I’ve never heard of a depression sponsor, but after getting to know someone faced with your same problem you might find a Best wishes to you and continue to post in this support group. Hugs!

The link doesn't work. Do you have a name?

Hi. On paper this sounds like a good idea. However it is essential to exercise great caution online as you have no idea if someone is who they say they are.

This is even more dodgy as you haven't locked your post to this community only and as such it can appear anywhere on the net including social media.

There are trolls and scammers out there who search the internet looking for vulnerable people to defraud. There is nothing to stop one of them seeing your post and joining the site with this intent.

Rather than looking for a sponsor I suggest just joining in with us on the main board and seeking peer to peer support here.

Remember though that we all have mental health issues on here so we all help each other.

Hello hypercat can you please tell me the steps to lock my post to this community only? I would appreciate it very much.

Just before you post there is the opportunity for 'anyone' or 'community only'. The default is set to the first so you have to change it.

Find the edit button on your device - it will be there somewhere and click on it. Then you can backlog your post. All the replies will also be locked automatically too.

So it is only when you start an actual post. Not when you reply within an existing post? If I reply to an existing post my reply will only be locked if the poster locked it? Am I understanding that correctly?

Yes. If you reply to a locked post only the first 250 characters are on the net. If an unlocked one then the whole post and all the replies go viral.

Wow I had no idea. Thank you so much for explaining this to me. It is very disturbing.

Yes I agree. I have long thought HU should stop the default issue. After all links still appear directing people here on locked posts too.

How do you know so much about all of this?

I have read the rules..

Also as the platform is owned by HealthUnlocked it must be them who ticks the default button. Common sense.

Where are the rules to read? I am very interested.

That depends on which device you are using but you will find them somewhere so have a search.
