I can’t sleep

For the past three weeks I’ve been waking up between 1am to 4am. I have bipolar 1. It’s really messing with me. Last week I had my house cleaned by 4am. I don’t feel manic really as I am more depressed than anything but I have read you can have both. It doesn’t matter what time I go to bed either. Sometimes I wake up in a sweat, sometimes not. Has anyone dealt with this and how do you handle it?

Hi, do you find this is a side effect of bipolar disorder? If so, it might be best to talk to a professional. If you are on a medication, you could ask your doctor if night sweats is a side effect of your medication.

My experience with depression was similar, I would wake up in the am and be restless. Usually I would use that time for journaling or a similar activity, coloring or reading. Have you tried melatonin, or magnesium for relaxing?

Either way, unless this is messing with your daily routine, maybe it would be most helpful not to fight it, but just to use that time productively until you can get back to sleep. Does that make sense?

I'm right there with you. It's almost 6am where I am at and have been up since 1. Cleaned, online shopped, laundry, etc. I am EXHAUSTED. If I didn't have little kids, I would just roll with when I'm up and when I'm asleep. L-Theanine gummies help me a lot when mind is spinning. I am so sorry you are going through this. When I get a few day break from the kids, I repeat the mantra "time is irrelevant." During these times I try not to schedule anything. Not doctors appointments, forget a social outing. I just sleep when my body lets me and roll with the punches. Not sure if you are able to do that type of mind set, but very similar to Renizzle response too. I feel your pain and am suffer right with you!

sometimes sweat is medicine etc sometimes when you wake up it can be stagnet air..fan, cracked window, ice pack to bed.only a certain melatonin works for me so may hav to try. fighting it is a fight so agree you are special... have doc check vitamins like vit d magnisium and potassium.how is your BP?blood pressure. i also clean like that with hope to fall asleep..with MS i end up in pain. so new hobby....coloring arts watching and not watching tv...
