I heard that hospitals can provide the best mental health team for those that struggle.

I read a teacher went into an ER and got help and has been with her mental health team for years now! Can anyone recommend the best hospitals in Brooklyn that can provide such care? Has anyone had good experiences like this?

An ER should be used for emergencies only. Should you have a mental health emergency and need an ER, they can most definitely treat your immediate emergency and may be able to provide you with a referral for mental health care in your area. This would also depend on your insurance coverage and provider guidelines. Also, you can look online to find mental health facilities in Brooklyn. Most insurance companies will have you see your primary care doctor for a referral to a mental health facility or specialist. Good luck to you!

thank you for explaining this to me.

currently I’m suffering from panic attacks each day. The therapist and psychiatrist don’t help much but I haven’t tried a support group yet. Thanks for sharing

I went to a number of different therapists for panic/anxiety and none of them really helped me with it. I did find medication (klonopin) helpful for reducing it. What helped me the most was learning what panic/anxiety really is and how to constructively deal with it. Panic/anxiety is our body's builtin warning system malfunctioning and we have to learn how to ignore it and desensitize our body to the sensations. Panic/anxiety is also a paradox, the more you fear it and resist it the more it persists so the solution is to surrender to it and let it pass through you. I found the DARE Anxiety book and youtube videos very helpful and also the youtube videos/website of Paige Pradko. You might also make sure your hormones, thyroid and adrenals are all functioning properly, they can cause or contribute to anxiety/depression. Panic/anxiety is highly treatable and you can heal from it with the right info and understanding.
