There’s a community on HealthUnlocked called Drink Free. Give it a try.

In the meantime, there is hope. If I was able to stop drinking then you can too. I was a mess. And lost a lot due to my alcohol problem.

Just don’t drink for today. Can you do that?

AA saved my life after trying everything else, but I wish I could have joined sooner. I missed a lot of life by waiting. I stopped drinking at 53 and even so, it wasn’t too late to have a good life without alcohol. 🍀

Please take these suggestions and get the help you need. I lost a friend to alcohol about 10 years ago. Her neighbor hadn't seen her in a few days and went to check on her and found her dead in her bed from alcohol poisoning. She had been a 'functional alcoholic' for years then started drinking more heavily. For a while many of us didn't even know she drank until finding her passed out one night when we were supposed to meet for dinner and she didn't show up. I wish you success in overcoming this. I know it isn't easy. Take care..

I am actually workin on a Substance Use Counseling certificate. If you think you have a problem, then you probably do. There are many resources out there, but in my experience, it was a matter of changing people, places, and things. Slowly moderate, find the point where you black out and do what you can to avoid that. Start later, end earlier. Some people have had good results with psilocybin or ketamine treatment. If you can spend Monday-Thursday not drinking, you can do it Friday-Sunday. Meditation exercises and friends who help me moderate have been invaluable.

Danjcs - this is definitely problem drinking. If you can’t stop you need help to do it. There are medications. But I know a ton of people who stopped with AA. And now they have online AA. Whatever you do “just don’t drink.”

Just some tips that worked for me:

- If you find it hard to quit, try to gradually cut down first. Keep track of how much you drink, and set goals for maximum number of drinks each week.

- Start doing some exercise, and set yourself some goals. Don't be too ambitious at first. Exercise made me feel much better, and then I realised how bad alcohol was making me feel.

- Find some temporary replacements for alcohol: I used alcohol free beer, coffe and chocolate. Later I cut down on that too.

And don't hesitate to seek help. It's really nothing to be ashamed of. A lot of people struggle with this.

Good luck, and wish you alll the best!

Binge drinking definitely qualifies you for AA. They're a wonderful place to go for support. I'd suggest finding meetings on the nights you binge. Usually if you ask around there are folks going to get coffee after the meeting. In a short time you will feel so much better after you quit drinking. Alcohol actually increases stress over the long run, raises your cortisol. Many people experience whats called the Pink Cloud after they quit. They just feel so wonderful.

Alcohol is a depressant.
