can’t do this any more

My anxiety is playing up so badly, I’ve had such a rough week, my worry started with some results I got from my doctor, it’s to do with my heart but they don’t seem to be to worried about it and have left me terrified. Look out for heart palpitations breathlessness and swelling to the lower legs well my anxiety has given me all of the above except the swelling. How do I separate fact from fiction?, I’m so anxious it’s literally killing me. I walk up the stairs and feel breathless or do I, I just do mixed up. Sorry for yet another horrible post, just don’t know what to do anymore

First i will say listen to doc and just watch. what is your cholesterol etc get a copy if you dont have one. If he put you on a new med..most meds have these warnings. Im gonna say at 115 lbs i had a quad bypass.. and noone warned me a bit medically, check bloodpressure relaxed 4 times a day, if you feel pain get checked out, if you are a woman it may be different pain. Go to heart.org. search truth not someone who wants to sell something to you. any questions....get a cardiologist.

Hi Cimmy, always remember to trust in your doctor and not Anxiety.

It always has to put it's 2 cents in making us worry unnecessarily.

As for going up the steps and feeling breathless or do you? Try relaxing

your shoulders and breathe normally. You might see quite a difference.

I use to hold my breathe when going up the steps and then thinking it

was my heart NOT... :) xx

That a is not a very appropriate thing for the doctor to say. He should be monitoring for palpitations with a Holter Monitor. This should be done on a periodic basis. I think you should see a cardiologist for some better treatment. It is up to the doctor to do the monitoring in these situations, not the patient. x

That's the thing I dislike most about anxiety, it mimics symptoms. Especially when you have health anxiety.

This is where journaling can be important. Because you can keep track on how you felt before and after you see the doctor. Like if you felt find before having these results come back then you were doing okay. Your doctor knows you. Just advise you to be on the lookout for anything abnormal. That's all.

But I know it's really hard when you get those results and it feels like everything in your body is becoming undone and you think you're going to die.

It's also important to have a good support team around you to help keep you grounded. Like a therapist or counselor, family and friends...including furry ones. Because with health anxiety your brain can run amuck with all kinds of feelings.

Even at my most healthiest I could never do stairs without breathing hard so you are not alone.

Don't be afraid to ask your doctor questions. Tell him/her your concerns. Tell em that these results have you worried. If you want tell them to do a full work up the heart. Also you can get a second opinion. See what that doctor tells you.

wow thank you for your very informative reply, you have said everything I think about myself and it is so good to know that I’m not going crazy. I felt so alone with this and my doctor is not very reassuring, his answer to everything is up your medication. I can’t even do that without worrying. Your absolutely right I was okish before I got the results that my heart is enlarged, I have had breathless episodes but that is often to do with my anxiety and I had a blot clot in my lung in may which was successfully treated with blood thinners but I’ve never felt right since then and my anxiety just went into overdrive and that’s where it has stayed. Sorry for the long reply just need to get it out there. Your input has been very much appreciated. Take care

Thinking of You ... Hang in there ok. I go through a lot of the same anxieties. Do you have a pet. I know my pug babies help me to relax. Don't over think, I do that a lot too. When you get anxious, sit down and just breath, nice, deep, slow. breathes. Remind yourself that better days lay ahead. Have goals, dreams. Try to accomplish them, even if it's just one little thing a day to get you closer to where you want to be. Please stay in touch ... I'm here :)

I've been there. I was always thinking I was coming down with Covid. It is SO HARD to shake thoughts like that. Even if your "rational" mind knows the facts, there is something I'll call "habitual thinking" that just won't quit. When I was at the height of my anxiety I had to rely on meds to "break the cycle". Now I use distraction- exercise, reading, listening to music, playing the piano, talking with friends, petting my dogs, work, etc. Do your best to stick to the facts. Good luck, and I hope you are able to shake this soon.
