Don’t use Elderflower tea ☠️

Starrlight profile image

I am sick and I read that Elderflower tea can help colds and even anxiety, so as I’m drinking this tea I start to sweat and feel really really sick so then I look up Elderflower more extensively and find you shouldn’t use much of it because it has cyanide in it! Cyanide. I just poisoned myself. I do feel strangely calm though. ☠️

yeah I think it’s the petals or some part of the flower that contain it.

did you look up though how much you needed to actually harm yourself though? Because it may be enough to not do anything to you

Starrlight in reply toAdamj

true what I read just said it will build up in your system if you drink it often

I’m not up on poisons but I remember watching an episode of forensic files or something like that and this person tried so hard to poison their significant other and they were giving just enough of whatever in their drink to not kill them and he kept trying to give more but their body kept building up and immunity to it and they ended up being a person with the highest level of this poison in them while still being alive just thought it was crazy cuz you said about it being built up

So interesting …

also supposedly you can make cyanide with apple seeds but you need a lot of them atleast that’s what I learned at the lunch table in highschool lol

I am really glad you are okay! Thank you for warning everybody because many people are unaware of issues with herbal preparations. I think you have to be careful with any herbal remedies. They should be treated as though they were drugs. I once bought some stinging nettle herb to flush out my system. The problem is, I drank way too much, and it flushed me out alright - the doctor told me my sodium was dangerously low and it could have killed me. Herbal preparations also can cause drug interactions so it is good to check with a doctor, especially if you are taking medications of any kind. Glad you are alright. I hope you are feeling better soon. 🙏🙏🙏

Thanks Stippler! Woah scary I’m so glad you are okay and with us today to tell about it. Yeah ‘natural’ and herbal remedies have to be studied and checked for interactions.

One time I told my Mother "Mom, it's safe! It's all natural!" She replied, "So is snake venom!" 😆 Funny, but true. Anyway, glad you are okay.

I'm not (at least up to this point in my life) a tea drinker, but I appreciate that you shared this with us Starrlight. :)
