Your not being selfish; you can’t be there for others if you’re not ok yourself. Most individuals dealing w/mental Illness know it’s a lot to handle and know the way we have to communicate w/loved ones that we need “space or time” that YOU also need that same time and space. Communion is key and just speak honestly and from the your heart. But let them know foremost you care and want to help and your not giving up on them, but you just need better tools to help them and that’s what you’re trying to do… find better tools. And end your communication with that you love them and you care for them and your here to help them.

Some people find they can be MORE supportive and caring to others when they, themselves are feeling at their worst. It means putting others before yourself, and can give an almighty feel good factor to your day. When we compare the hurts of others against the hurts of the self we somehow put our lives back into perspective. I am one of those people, and I speak from experience. There is no greater love we can show each other than that of sharing their pain. The only thing we need watch out for is that we do not transfer our pain to them - that is something that comes from love, hope, trust, and faith!
