I just took this adaptogen for stress reduction and it has in it salidrosides which are neoroprotective properties, helps with cognitive function, and has anti- depressive effects. I’ve taken it in the past and it helps me get to sleep too. Just thought I’d share.
I’m not saying this is good for everyone, it surely should be monitored and let your doctors know if you are trying a new herb or adaptogen or any supplement.
I am now really not handling stress well so I have decided to go back to it after 7 years of forgetting about it.
I just noticed my headache left and my chest feels open not so tight.

I haven't seen a lot of alternative remedies for sleep but valerian is recommended quite a bit. I see it on alternative and home remedy sites. Maybe Starrlight is familiar with it.
And this site just has people talking about what works for them and what doesn't. I use this site a lot too. Valerian is on the list but there are other remedies too. No sales, no spam. LOL earthclinic.com/cures/insom... Good luck!
yw! I only use alternative remedies if I can, no prescriptions for me. At least not yet. I have them bookmarked, it's easy and the sites are easy to navigate. So user friendly for somebody like me that can't figure anything out. LOL And yes, lots of good information. Enjoy! 😀
Have you tried hot golden milk? It seems to help me with pain and help me calm. Sometimes I make it myself, but I have some from a company that makes it now. (Really expensive. It was a present.)
It helps me fall asleep, not stay asleep. So... here I am. I'd rather be up late than wake at 4 a.m.
If I am subject to a lot of... well, you know... I don't really sleep. I wake constantly, and jump out of bed in a panic. This can go on for days. The stress from not sleeping makes the other stress harder to deal with. Nothing helps.
"Normal" nights my routine gets me six hours of sleep. I get to choose which six. If I stay up late, as I prefer, I wake at a better time for me.
I started trying melatonin after it was given to me in hospital. (It only gave me a headache there. I learned that's from too large a dose.) What I read said to take 2 or 3 mg. one hour before bedtime. At first, nothing. But I was persistent. I tried different brands, and gradually increased the dose. Still nothing, all it would do was knock me out, and I'd wake two hours later. Then I discovered time-release melatonin (can you hear the heavenly choir?) and it was a miracle. The dose that works for me is 7.5 mg. (It doesn't come that way. My tablets are 10 mg. I take 1-1/2 pills one hour before bed.)
I started using golden milk for pain, not for sleep. But for me, stress is part of pain when it's bad. I was amazed to find not only did golden milk often reduce my pain, it knocked me out too. I'd get dopey shortly after I drank it.
Golden milk is apparently a drink that originates in parts of India. It was used to help... well, look it up. The idea is that it cures just about everything. (Wouldn't that be nice?) I love Indian food, so I have a kitchen full of fresh spices from the Indian market. Turmeric is the main ingredient. (It's kind of bitter tasting, so you might not like the taste.) There are a lot of different recipes all over the internet. Some from Indian women who learned it from their mom. My recipe is based on taste, what I know about the medicinal use of spice, and what I need.
If you want my recipe, I'll try to figure it out for you tomorrow. Mostly, a little bit of this, a little bit of that -- depending on the day.
The blend -- I warn you it's pricey -- is just a convenience for me when I hurt too much to get out my spices. The company is "Big Heart Tea". They call the blend "Sunshine Dust".
I prefer my own blend, but this does the trick too.
Oh, you can buy turmeric and cook with it too. It's a pretty amazing pain killer. It doesn't last as long as drugs, but it helps. Watch yourself, the stuff will stain any-and-everything! You can't get it off your fingers! Don't get the supermarket stuff. It's not fresh.
I used melatonin for about 6 months, after that it stopped working.
I think I will try golden milk if it's available from a cafe that sells these type of things. I see that it helps many thing including the boosting of the immune system.
Thank you for supplying this great information. I've learned quite a bit from this post.
Six hours isn't bad. I'm a 4 hour woman and my clock is way off from that of the normal world. I go with the flow.
Sweet dreams when you lay your head on that pillow
I've been taking Rhodiola for panic attacks for about 4-5 years. It works well for me. I took it years ago to help me stay awake. It helped but after about 2 weeks lost it's effectiveness. I had read that you should take a break from it after a few weeks and resume in another couple of weeks. I've also read that it helps with sleep, it seems to work in opposite directions on different people. I alternate it with several other herbal supplements to prevent the panic attacks. But other than that none of them seem to do much else for me. I don't mind, I'm glad I don't have panic attacks anymore as long as I take them every day. I'm glad it helps you.
Thanks! I know. I hadn't read it was good for sleep until later on, after I had been taking it to keep me awake. I was like whaaat?? hahaha Although it never worked for that for me again. But the panic attacks - yeah, it's great.
