I have pretty bad anxiety, and even though I take some Trazadone to go to sleep (75mg), I wake every night at 3am and can't fall back to sleep. On top of this, when I wake my arms and legs feel "buzzy" . . . I'm beginning to get exhausted as this has been going on for a few weeks. Is anyone else having really bad sleep problems? Any solutions?

3am wakening, arms and legs feel buzzy
How long have you been on Trazadone?
No I've only been on it about 4 weeks.
Sometimes I wake up with so much anxiety I want to pull my arms off. I am hot. I get up shake it off, drink something cool, watch tv until I fall asleep again. I've been on trazodone for years.
I'm just not falling asleep again at all, and even if I take another 50mg of Trazadone at 3AM it doesn't make me fall asleep. Occasionally it does, but then I'm groggy the next day.
I have that problem where I fall asleep and wake up around 3 or 4 am too. I hate it. I just try having some warm milk or chamomile tea and try to read a book or listen to some relaxing music. That’s about all I can do. I definitely have insomnia issues.
It's just about the worst thing I've ever been through.
I tend to feel like this walking zombie. Like, why can’t I fall back asleep??? I just lie down and hug a pillow and imagine I’m lying on the beach by the ocean.
EastCoastCityGuy, when I was in the depths of my anxiety, I too would wake up from
a sound sleep around 3-4am, sweating, shaking as well as feeling like I was in dire danger.
While working on myself over the years, I learned the reason for anxiety to wake me up
at that time every night. It is when the levels of Cortisol and Adrenaline start rising for
the day. At one time, we had to fight to stay alive. The caveman had to forge for food
as well as be on alert in case wild animals were around. This rise in these hormone levels
allowed them to go into the "fight or flight" stance.
Since we no longer live like this, our anxiety fools us into thinking there is danger all
around us which has allowed us to break through our medications. This is not an unusual
response to severe anxiety. xx
I thought it was probably too much adrenaline, etc. I used to have 4am awakening with depression, but could fall back asleep. This is 3am awakening without being able to fall asleep, so severe anxiety seems to be much harder on me. Did you find anything particularly useful to get you out of intense anxiety?
Absolutely I have found that falling asleep each night to affirmative medication and breathing, can allow me to go into that deep REM sleep w/o any interruptions.
This is became listening to positive reinforcement before bed and upon awakening in
the morning can retrain your subconscious mind to ignore negative train of thoughts.
When we sleep at night, 95% of our brain (the subconscious mind) replays the events
of the day putting us in a state of unsettling fear. Of course, at 3-4am when the hormone
levels rise, we are already in a fearful state and react to those stimulants.
Once you are able to calm your mind and body before falling asleep, you can sleep
right through the rise in cortisol and adrenaline just like most people do.
There are many helpful videos on YouTube that can put you in the right direction.
Do not expect success on the first, second or third try. It's a learned behavior that
can take up to 30 days to get use to. Then it's about listening to it over and over
each day. Find what your mind conforms to and sleep away.
Let me know if you need some help I'm also here to suggest videos that I use myself xx
Oh yes please. I would love to have video suggestions, etc. Also, are there any CDs that you would recommend -- I'd appreciate any help as I'm at wits end. Thank you so much.
Hi my friend. Sorry for the delay. As I was searching for some of the videos on YouTube that I listen, I got caught up in how relaxing they were.
Let me tell you that not everyone responds the same in listening or doing Meditation.
Give a try and eventually you will find your own videos and speakers that you respond
to.
I would say to listen for Free first before looking to buy CDs. These are all on YouTube/
"Let Go of Limiting Beliefs/Build Positive Beliefs/Deep Sleep Meditation" by
Mindful Movement.
"Reprogram Your Mind/Manifest Anything Sleep Meditation"
"Very Strong Sleep Hypnosis & Meditation to Fall Asleep Fast"
These 3 will give you an idea in what I use. For myself, I have some favorite
speakers who have a soft deep voice that is calming, soothing and penetrates
the subconscious mind. Of course we each respond differently.
I hope this gives you a start. We can then go from here. My best to you xx
As my depression lessens, my anxiety level goes sky high causing sleep irregularities. When I wake up at 3 or 4 I have try to stay in bed. When I get up it just makes it harder to regulate my sleep. I end up taking naps during the day which causes me to wake up at 3 the next morning. Quite a cycle of distinction. Good luck.
I don’t have a time I wake up as I go to sleep at different times. I do however wake up around 3 hours after falling asleep and feel wide awake and can’t sleep. I sometimes can if I take melatonin and listen to guided meditation, then I’ll be awake again in 2-3 hours. I don’t have weird feelings in my body though (except anxiety sometimes).
I’m right there with you. I take trazodone (150mg). It usually allows me to get a good nights sleep, but with a lot of changes to my psychiatric medications my anxiety is awful this morning. I hope you can plow through this with your symptoms.
On Trazodone. Same thing. 3am wakeup. I clock watch. I remember that I get 3 more hours of sleep until my husband's alarm goes off.
Trazodone puts me to sleep. Tried a higher dose and I wake up like a zombie. And like many have mentioned the rise of anxiety and the pitfalls of not getting good sleep.
I've done the Trazodone for years. The 3am thing isn't every night, but it is awful. I feel a little better to hear I am not the only one.
HI there. Trazadone makes my legs feel weird. I finally linked it with the med and had to stop taking it.
The main things that have helped me is not drinking, going to bed at the same time every night, different meditations that are to help sleep, and reading the book, "End the Insomnia Struggle." I'm sorry you are going through this.
I have to take Xanax to sleep, before that I would have horrible symptoms that would keep me awake all night. I wish I had a solution but I don’t.
Hello. I have had this problem for quite awhile. My doctor said when I wake up get a glass of warm milk and read something that is not to your liking. This will relax you and get you back to sleep. After a few weeks your brain will become used to this relaxation and keep you in bed. I have tried this and it is a hit or miss thing for me. It has worked well for other people and maybe it can help you. Good luck 🤞.
Today, my doctor told me to do exactly this . . . the getting up and going in another room to read and do something to get out of the high anxiety state I seem to wake in. The thought of getting out of my warm bed at 3am isn't my idea of a good time, but I'm willing to try anything. She wants me to do some progressive relaxation, too. And #3 is deep, slow, breathing.
Took trazadone for years with the same affects/side affects. Changed recently. Try something else.
misslillie - the doctors today changed me to something different to help me with the sleep. I will try it tonight. I had never heard of it. I thinks it's a type of antidepressant that causes sleepiness. It will be interesting to see how I react to this. (I don't want to say what it is right now, cause I want to try it without any bias.)
Trazadone is an anti-depress mostly at much larger dosage. All sorts of anxiety meds avail.
