Have you something to look forward 👀 to?

hmmm I am probably going to watch a mystery movie on Friday with my sons called Where the Crawdads Sing. I’ve been feeling depressed and needed to find something to look forward to.

Anyone else have something to look forward to?

Hey David I’m not sure if it’s available elsewhere beside US I’ll let you guys know how it is. 🙂 I’m teaching my kiddos lately and I think I am stressed over my irrational anxiety and over-thinking but to keep well I’m walking in the mornings and meditating four times a day , also have a very healthy diet How about you?

That movie looks good. I'm going to stream it. I am part of a monthly dinner and indie movie group. It is one of the highlights of my month even though last month the movie was so bad we walked out early. If the movie is bad we still have dinner or drinks. This weekend I am volunteering for a friend who is running for a local office. I always feel a apprehensive but glad I did something to help after.

you sound great Blueruth! Let’s both critique the movie for others. Your group sounds good. Wow cool your friend is running for office! I bett to it does feel good afterwards. Good for you.

I don’t know about that movie. I read part of the book. It’s a rather sad story in the beginning about a young girl living in bad conditions and the girls Mom takes off and leaves the family and this young girl learns to fend for herself. It’s interesting but I’m a little too much of a sensitive empath and I know that in real life some people have parents that take off like that. I’m not trying to spoil the movie for you but I thought you should know. That’s some heavy subject matter there.

It’s probably a good movie. There just might be some parts that could be hard to watch.

I’m half way through the book and I’m going to watch it on Hulu. But I’m saving to watch it with a friend and I’m chomping on the bit wanting to go ahead and watch it by myself. What’s that saying? Ask for forgiveness later? 🤭

Oh yes, I'm looking forward to a bunch of things, actually: tomorrow, getting an echocardiogram and heart monitor; next month, getting the second dose of coronavirus vaccine; finding a primary care doctor, plus specialists; co-op PC video game nights; watching new shows and movies with dinner; visiting my local library for the first time; reading new books, writing new poems; getting all my poetry (and poetry-related) books and recordings out of storage, being surrounded by them on shelves in my new home. 😺

Wow amazing stuff there Mr.Monk! You’re a busy bee. I want to read your new poems. When did you move? Sounds good to be surrounded by what you love.

Hi Starrlight! The cardiology appointments went okay and I set up an appointment for tomorrow to see a general practitioner online through Plushcare. I have a bit of a sore throat with sporadic pain on the right side of my head and a twitching left eyelid. Next week, I'll get the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Then, I've got to figure out how to get my books and stuff out of storage in Maine. I moved to New Hampshire (from Florida) a year ago last October and neither me nor my wife drives, so we'll have to see about hiring someone to drive a U-haul from ME to NH at the end of the month. It's stressful, but exciting!

No new poems finished yet, but I had the weirdest dream last night. I don't remember many specifics, but in the dream I was reading what I believe was The Dream Songs, a collection of poetry by John Berryman. The weird thing is I've never read the book in real life -- only a handful of poems from it -- yet in the dream I read a poem seemingly from the book that I don't remember reading in real life! Though I can't remember a single word now, I read it aloud in its entirety and I got emotional at the final lines...then I woke up! Now, I have no idea if the poem is an actual Berryman poem that my brain "photographed" in passing while awake and allowed me to read in my sleep, or -- and this would be more amazing still -- if my brain actually composed an original poem on the spot specifically for this dream!

Isn't the mind a marvel?

How about you? How's life treating you these days? I hope you are well. 😺

Starrlight in reply tomrmonk

So exciting to be getting your books and recordings out of storage.

I’m going to look up Berryman when I get a chance, curious.

Woah that dream either remembering or composing is incredible.

Life is beautiful over here, thanks for asking. My dog and I are out watching and listening to the rain on our porch. I think although I get overwhelmed and scared at times I also see the beauty that hardships turn into as things tend to work out. If things were always easy we would not triumph as big I guess.

It’s really good to connect with you, my friend.

Indeed, it's very good to connect again. 😺

Perhaps, there is some truth in the saying, "Through adversity comes strength."

Here's a link to Berryman's first Dream Song (with accompanying audio of the poet):

And here's a video with a noticeably inebriated but still brilliant Berryman reading Dream Song #14:

I love the poetry and I read the bio as well woah what an intense person, intense life, and intense death even.

mrmonk profile image
mrmonk in reply toStarrlight

Very much so. On all fronts.

Two friends of mine, also poets, were very influenced by him.

Though his work interests and bewilders me, it was Berryman's student, Donald Justice, who made the greater mark and impression on me.

Starrlight profile image
Starrlight in reply tomrmonk

oooh another interesting person to learn about then.

Oh and I forgot to say, I’m so glad your cardiology appointments went well.

Thanks. It's a lot easier to read too.

I read that book and although I found it hard to get into at the start I really enjoyed it so I can’t wait to watch the film! I love my movies so at the weekend especially I look forward to watching something. I hope you enjoy!

I read the book. I just don’t think it’s a good movie for your kids. It is about overcoming adversity which is good but I doubt your kids would enjoy it. More of an adult movie.

Read the book, would love to know what you think of the movie. I'm very looking forward to going to Colorado next week to see my daughter (she lives in Philly but will be there for a wedding) and many relatives as both my parents are from Colorado. A little nervous about Covid, but will wear a mask the whole time in the airport and on the plane. I understand lots of people are not doing that now which makes me nervous, but am excited about the trip.

Hi Starrlight, I haven't seen the film or read the book, but I hope it lifted your mood. I think it's lovely that you have two sons that you can share things with. I've been asleep most of the afternoon (after a disturbed night - partner getting up, getting lost and dropping things). Trying to catch up on things but finding it hard to focus. Tomorrow's another day.
