They put old people in a home, they should be at home to teach the wisdom to the children, Thats why we have a stupid society these days.

I have moved with my daughter and her family and every day I feel the gift they give me and the joy of having my two and a half grandson growing up with me by his side, she shares his wisdom with me as well

I agree, I am constantly learning from our 3 year old grandson!

they can still be happy and teach in a home. And my mother was thrilled not to cook. But yea… agree… no money.. no care. I saw some awful facilities when I was working in the community a couple years ago. There’s a whole racket that drains your bank account, then the family bank account if they tricked them, and then cuts your care.

Ageism is terrible at work after 50. All that knowledge is lost.

There are also some great facilities. I'm a retired Occupational Therapist and spent many years working in long term care and skilled nursing facilities.

my mom was/is in a couple nice ones. My aunt didn’t have money. Only thing that saved her was being in a state with universal health care. There are a bunch of nice ones near me but again… 💰

I know, many times it comes down to $$...

yep and there are a lot of greedy businesses too. One scam is to get relatives or friends to sign an agreement to pay when the resident can’t. They stick it at the bottom when they are distraught. My cousin knew this and didn’t sign but still their collectors called her.

I haven't heard of that... that's awful.

For some seniors it can be the best place for them. It depends on the person. My grandmother was in assisted living for four years. After my grandfather died she had a hard time driving by herself and it was good she was with other seniors. I would visit her once a week and take her out shopping. There were things she didn’t like about it but it was really for the best.

Generation after generation, we have learned through the life experiences

of our elders. I often wonder what this generation will teach their children.

Thanks for the post gerrerd. It makes you think... :) xx

I read an article where a city had college students and seniors living together in a big complex. Both ages benefitted. It is very successful. I wish I could remember where that was.
