Intense fear of losing my mind after a panic attack

Has anyone with a panic disorder experienced such alarming thoughts during a panic attack that you've worried you're going crazy?

I just had a panic attack a couple weeks ago and haven't been able to stop worrying that I'm going to lose my grip on reality. I've had several panic attacks since and every time I end up feeling very detached from and overwhelmed by the world around me. Even once the panic attack ends, these strange existential thoughts will continue to pop up and ruminate in my brain. I can't seem to turn them off now that I've had them.

I'd love to hear from others with panic disorder who might have experienced something similar. Did you eventually stop having the intrusive thoughts about existence and/or did you find ways to cope with them? ❤️

lee, let me assure you that you are not going crazy and are not losing sightof reality. This is Anxiety at it's overwhelming best. Once it has your attention

the more you feed into that fear, the more it goes into anticipational anxiety.

After a while you feel as if you are constantly living at the edge.

Let me start with recommending a book by Dr. Claire Weekes "Hope & Help for Your Nerves" also on video on YouTube. This has been the first step for many of us including

myself who found her theory of Acceptance a great help.

Acceptance in that Anxiety won't kill you. It is a negative thought that goes astray by

our feeding into the fear causing Adrenaline to spike. Of course since we are not therapists

or doctors, you should always consult with your physician who may very well recommend

medication/therapy.

I want to Welcome you to this safe and caring site where we are here to walk the walk

with you. Understanding and supportive friends who have also experience these symptoms.

We share our journey with each other and learn from each other as to what has worked

for us. I'm happy to invite you to join in. :) xx

Oaks6, I'm happy to hear that you have found the theory helpful.

Now it's about applying it daily along with other tools and methods

which can help you follow the path to your goal.

Of course, we are here to help support you along the way. Breathe :) xx

out of interest, I was really tested one morning when I was driving and started feeling unwell. My tinnitus was high and that causes me anxiety. I ended up hyperventilating after I got out of the car but once I was with people I was fine.
