Open to opinions....

So about 3 weeks ago I went to the mall to return some shoes. I told my friend I wasn't getting new ones but after looking at some shoes I said why not. I had the gift card for the shoes that I had just returned. So I saw these Nikes and I'm not into those shoes I'm more into something weightless like Adidas. Also I'm not the type of girl that's into brand shoes if I find them comfortable I'll buy them. I have bought from Walmart those $5 shoes and from family dollar so I'm not into expensive brands. They being said I got 2 pairs some nikes and Adidas. Well that one seemed to have been my lucky night. I met a guy and my friends said put the new shoes on like "nice" I had already put on the nikes and I wore them for like 30 minutes top. Well I switched shoes. The night ended I got home a little buzzed but I remembered I left my shoes in the living room I went to sleep and that was that. I don't remember how many days i left my shoes in the living room but I decided to put them in my room. One week went by then I start smelling something bitter in the room. I looked around the room I was maybe my sister left something and ir went bad. I didn't find anything 2 weeks went by from the day I bought the shoes. It was a Sunday and I was looking for the smell in the room it was getting stronger. I couldn't find anything but then i moved my new shoes and the smell hit me. I told my mom look these shoes smell weird. She said yes it might be the chemicals used on them or whatever. I left them alone. I said I have a day off from work I will look deeper into the smell still thinking it might or may not be the shoes. So fast forward to yesterday afternoon I had put the shoes outside and it had been a few days. I checked on them they still smelled. Well I don't know why but I looked inside the shoes to find a rotten orange the thing was green. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I took a video and sent it to my friends I had told them that the shoes were smelling horrible. When I told them they were mad and surprised. I started crying not because of how much I spent on them. But because I knew who had done it and he had lied to my face. I'm not 100% sure but I know it was my brother he like to play around and put oranges in my clean clothes but I have found them. But the thing is this "prank" went to far. Nobody wants to take responsibility about the shoes everyone is acting like the oranges got there by themselves and I'm the crazy one. So I'm taking matters into my hands and I'm moving out as soon as possible not because of the shoes but because of all the bullshit I have received from my family and all the stress I have been through. This was the last straw it was what broke all the strength I had to stay here.

Here is a picture of my ruined shoes.

You asked for opinions but I have questions... Shouldn't your brother pay for them? What was his motive? Prank or encouraging you to leave? If the latter are you going to let him win? You sound pretty emotional right now because from what little I know your family doesn't sound cruel. Only one member is lying. Or maybe you are just ready to leave. That's okay too.

I know that my sister is covering up for him too acting like she doesn't know anything. She asked what was wrong with my shoes even though I showed her the orange inside. Then my mother asked her too she asked me what was the problem with them. Like I never showed her my shoes. And she had previously said she would cover up for him anytime she needed too. She told me that about a month earlier during an argument about his behavior.

To answer your questions... I don't want him to pay for my shoes and you might ask why. First he shouldn't have done the "prank" or shouldn't have taken it that far second what do I get out of getting them replaced. He did what he did knowing every well the outcome. Yes I will let him win because I'm simply exhausted and beyond stressed in this family nothing said or done will undo all the suffering and the depression they have caused me. If I can move out I'm sure I will do better.

Your profile says 30 so I imagine it is time. You need some autonomy and to make your own way. IDK if you have been at home all this time or moved back. Either way it is nice to be able to design your unique space, not your mom's.
