It's them that has the problem, there words and insults belong to them, how you react is the only thing you have control of.

Oh no, not always. You have to try and exercise control if they give others a false impression of you.

If they are in pain , that does not give them free rein to cause me pain.

I think a better way to go is just to be very slow and reluctant to judge, but don't say never because in extreme/obvious cases, sometimes it still has to be done.

There are grey areas and different levels but in general we can observe and come to conclusions, without being the judge and jury.
