Has anyone had emotional blunting or apathy on Cymbalta or Buspar?

I started Cymbalta last May and I started Buspar last September and I'm wondering what's causing what. I actually ran out of Buspar on Thursday and I felt a little more alive today but it might just be correlation and not causation. Last year I also had surgery and subsequent complications where I was under anesthesia and on a lot of pain meds, and even surgery itself can cause depression...all I know is I've been super apathetic and emotionally flatlined for months now and it's killing me.

I took Cymbalta for years. Didn't make me feel that way. However all of a sudden last year it just stopped working. Had to taper off slowly. Good luck to you...I hope you feel better soon.

It works pretty well for me too, but I'll have to weigh the costs and benefits of staying on it or maybe try lowering the dose with my doctor if it comes down to it. I just want to feel pleasure, feel motivated again!

Unfortunately most anti depressants will stunt all emotions. I have only felt grief after losing parents in the 19 years I have been on tablets.

I've heard similar claims from others :( It makes sense since in dulling the depression, it's difficult for the medication not to discriminate lol. Thank you for your reply <3

I tried cymbalta and buspar but neither helped me much but we are all different. I wound up doing a psychopharmacological test which used my dna to determine which meds were best suited for me genetically. The test was from Genesight and was paid for by my insurance. I live in the US and i'm not sure if it's available elsewhere or if their are other brands available. I started on one of the meds it recommended (Pristiq) and it has worked well with no side affects. It also showed that the meds I had tried previously including cymbalta and buspar were not right for me. I think the test is a good way to eliminate a lot of the trial and error of the med process. The test had to bee prescribed by my med practitioner.
