Any thoughts about Escitalopram? I'm about to start taking it next week but I really don't know what to expect. I've taken other anti-depressants in the past, so generally have an idea(ish) of what to expect from an anti-depressant, just not specifically Escitalopram.
I hope you're all treating yourselves well, especially at this time of year (winter )

I was on it for almost two years and love it. It has helped my depression so much. I was in a state of severe major depression for almost 2 years with periods of being a bit easier before I went on meds. I have dysthymia too. I have severe anxiety which manifests as OCD mental compulsions. I am in the middle of cross taper to wean of the escitalopram and start something new which will hopefully help with my thoughts too.
Supposedly it's the best drug for depression and anxiety. Unfortunately it hasn't helped my anxiety but nothing has including Xanax and Klonopin which are addictive.
Thank you for telling me about your experience! I'm a little less nervous now about starting it. Hopefully this new medication will help with your anxiety and thoughts.
And just about winter, I had SAD (seasonal affective disorder), aka lowgrade depression in winter. I use the mood light as soon as I feel that coming on for the season and found it to really help.
Actually, medication may be used in conjunction with therapy as a short-term or long-term treatment option based on the severity f the symptoms, interaction with other medications, and individual circumstances. However, it takes time and patience to find the drug that works best for you. Only taking medicines may be less effective than using in combination method. You might it helpful. As I have also taken my medication from here. That's why I am suggesting this to you. Best of luck.
Thanks for sending this information! I do attend therapy in conjunction with my medication and have found therapy to be especially helpful. Looking forward to starting this new medication though- I really didn't enjoy the previous one. Best of luck to you too
I took escitalopram for around 2 years for my anxiety/panic attacks and felt that it helped tremendously. I don't think I've experienced any weird side effects from it but I really benefited a lot from taking it.
Have been taking for depression for about 2 months or more. Started at 5mgs per day now at 15mg. It has really helped me I hope it helps you. Everyone is different. For me I had to stay with it for a while and go through a brief period of feeling a little odd. But with the encouragement of my doctor, I did, and I am glad. Stay in touch with your doctor about any reactions. Currently the only side effect is occasionally it will keep me awake, otherwise I think very beneficial.
