How to stop overthinking / rehearsing

So I work nights alone and if I need to handover anything to the staff that comes in the morning I can't stop thinking about what I need to say . I constantly rehearse in my mind what I need to say and how I should say it . It find it really hard not to think about it. I try to distract myself or write in down which works for some of the time but some the thought comes back to me . And I end up pacing around the building it's very disturbing as I forget what I am trying to do .

Anyone have similar issues or have any advice ?

Honestly mega…I think you should be kinder to yourself. You clearly care about your job and you’re meticulous about delivering the best outcome for the team coming on the next morning. I think that is brilliant.

I’ve been a dot all the i’s kind of person. I was a sister on a very busy neuro ICU. Not many people were as good or as efficient as me. I always took pride in that:)) so Bravo I say.

You really only need to tweak a few things imo. My advice…yes ofc write things down as they crop up. That’s what everyone should do. Do a summary first of things to do from your handover to your shift…tick them off as you do them. Inbetween if things crop up on your shift…write them down. Prioritise basically. Once you see that you’ve ticked off your list of jobs to do on your own list…see how much you achieved…good job I’d say then:))

Your list of things that crop up…obviously do them in priority and tick off the ones you complete.

Handover is there for a reason. No one can complete everything. Therefore we handover. It is that simple the concept.

So flip this on it’s head. Done all the jobs that were handed to you…tick them off…yaaaay!! You can say they were all done on your handover. New things…tick them off in order of priority. Note down how far you get with them before another problem becomes a clear priority. You have both the record of what you have done to celebrate over…and what you need to handover to the next shift.

Just don’t doubt yourself. You are doing a fantastic job and need to actually take pride. I wish everyone was as diligent as you. A few easy win tweaks… I say Bravo. You’re a breath of fresh air.
