Difficulty finding a therapist

Hi! Is anyone else having trouble finding a therapist? I’ve contacted several, with no success. Most don’t even respond to my inquiries. The two that did respond, said they aren’t taking on new patients at this time. I am employed and have health insurance. I know I need to seek therapy, but it’s proving very difficult. I feel defeated and frustrated. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

Hi! I am in the United States 🇺🇸 so I can’t speak for other countries. Here, if you have insurance through an employer, the insurance may have a list of participating providers. Some employers also have programs and ways for people to find providers. Like, does your company have a hotline for stressed out workers and stuff? My friend’s daughter in law works for one of those hotlines. I think they are usually only for big companies though.

Finding providers in the US can be really frustrating. It’s a problem.

Thank you both for your responses! It’s much appreciated. I am located here in the States. I work for a large employer, who actually has an EAP (employee assistance program) that affords employees a number of free therapy sessions per year. I’m very fortunate in that regard (though, this is the first time I’m attempting to utilize it). I called our EAP, who provided me with a handful of in network providers. I tried contacting various providers via email. No responses. I called my EAP back and they provided me with more names. Again, either no responses to my email inquires, or I was told they are not taking on any new patients. I even tried contacting a couple out of network providers. I’m just not having any luck. Perhaps most therapists have a full case load right now and/or the upcoming holiday is limiting availability.

I am in the US also and my understanding is that the majority of therapists are really busy now from an increase because of the impact of covid. I've also read that a lot of therapists are doing virtual therapy so it might be possible to find one who isn't in your immediate area to work with if you are ok with virtual therapy.

It's difficult right now as there are many more people than normal seeking help because many have become isolated with the pandemic.

Cheers, Midori
