I’ve been following. We won’t know for two weeks if vaccines are effective and they are already working on potential boosters. It is now in Europe and Asia. Although there are no reported cases experts believe it is in US. Honestly WHO warned this would happen. African nations are absolutely right to be pissed at rich countries. They need to step it up.

Yes, I am concerned with this new variant... If people don't want to wear a mask, stay home and don't infect people who have to be out and about. I'm sick and tired of all this BS, this thing is a killer, and now kids are taking the hit... time for everyone to grow up and start using their common sense and common decency....Sure we are all sick and tired of this Covid crap, and we will probably always have it in one form or another, but this one variant is a possible big problem for the near future.

I'm not going to risk a breakthrough infection with this thing... so I'm self-isolating and masking, sanitizing. Nope... this Omicron variant could be the one variant that could cause a lot of 'breakthrough' cases because it has 30 different protein spikes that make it possibly the most vaccine resistant and the most infectious to date.

No one is going to escape this thing if you think going out in crowds of unvaccinated is a good thing to do. Shop online......it's early days.... if people would just be smart, but money talks...and covidiots are confusing politics with science. All it takes is a few brain cells to figure this out...it's an airborne contagion....being outside without a mask and someone sick sneezes in front of you...you could potentially get sick. Letting your nose hang out of the top of your mask is amazingly stupid, where do you sneeze from...yeah...do the math. There is no safe spacing in a closed room...this thing floats and stays airborne for quite a while...it's an aerosol and is a suspension of fine solid or liquid particles form.

But I guess time will tell how this winter will pan out... hopefully people will use common sense and this thing will burn out or mutate to a less virulent variant. No matter what anyone says though, someone will always come up with opposition... that's the new norm. Democracy at it's best.

Thankful I’m not immune compromised. As such I feel like isolation should be a lesson learned. I don’t think it is a healthy. Knowing it is airborne socializing outside or being in an open area with a mask along with vaccination should be safe. I’m not going to isolate myself. My shopping behavior has changed though …not as much browsing in crowded places. That’s probably permanent.

I'm confused.... what do you mean by isolation is a lesson learned?

because of the lockdowns or whatever you want to call it a lot of groups like addiction groups were canceled. Zoom is not an option for a lot of people. Self inflicted (intentionally or not) hospitalizations and deaths were through the roof. I am not a religious person but I felt for the people who couldn't go to a service even if it was following guidelines. I caught a lot of push back just for saying so. Plus many of us including myself do not have family or a pod. It is interesting how people forget about you too. Now we know more about how to make effective masks, we have vaccines, we don't need to wipe everything down. Everyone makes their own decision of course but I don't think lockdowns are necessary or healthy. I don't think my health dept will institute a lockdown. They might require vaccine proof in public places. They already have a state app that syncs with the health dept.

Yes, you do read and know what you are reading. You offer very good food for thought.

Safety is the name of the game. We can all choose how we want to live alongside Covid. It's not going away any time soon.

I don't know if by having taken microbiology, epidemiology, physiology, anatomy, etc. etc. as a pre-med. did me any harm for sure when it comes to trying to understand the potentials of this bug. Aseptic technique is difficult at best for professionals in an ER situation, I can't imagine it's any easier trying to explain to a 5-year-old they need to wash their hands. But here we are...professionals like yourself putting themselves on the line trying to help adults who are sick and acting like 2-year-olds, letting politics and tribal mentality dictate their health and that of their families, and all who are exposed, including the people trying to save their lives.

As they say, you can lead a horse to water....

You are well educated in the field, I think the same about being a nurse... do we know too much for our own good? But at the same time we know what we need to do to protect ourselves.

There are so many workers around the world that have been through hell. It's not just medical people. It's every person working in a medical facility. Then you have teachers who tried so hard to do the best they could but they are not trained in medicine. So scary for them. Many people left their careers out of fear.

We can all look back at anything in hind site and say well, we didn't need to go that far, probably didn't have to do this, that or the other thing. People making those decisions were trying to protect us as they learned what the heck was going on.

I watched quite a few tele conferences from New York City during their peak. I will never forget the fear on the faces of medical personnel trying to figure out how to keep people alive. One surgeon said they were all working as a team. Moving beds, helping the housekeepers clean, moving to different areas outside of their specialty to help short staffed areas. All for the sake of the patients.

Anyway, we can all make our own choices. I don't have the energy to debate my views. I protect myself, my family and it's extremely important to me to protect the patients. It's my duty.

Stay safe my friend

I want to say one fact , this media always wants to make the public into fearful mode. Another thing, lots of media are publishing their news The new variant virus from South Africa. I don't know Why they are targeting some particular country. I don't know the right reason, that's Why I'm asking this question in this post. Another thing, My motto is not to make the users panic or fear.

fauxartist profile image
fauxartist in reply to jeffersonsam99

Many of us are stressed from having to isolate, mask, washing hands, keeping our distance, and yet others are hiding their heads in the sand or making this into a fearmongering political thing and it has nothing to do with politics, the virus doesn't discriminate. We are all sick of the Covid thing, but that doesn't mean it magically went away. We should be able to share here safely how we worry about things, ....it's not about having to be right or wrong or fear and panic...it's about common sense.... don't become complacent and drop your guard quite yet about masking, etc. I'd be more worried about some of the other comments, to not educate yourself. I'm sick of stupidity and covidiots that get their kids sick, and healthcare workers sick, and innocent people they come in contact with sick. That worries me a lot.

Blueruth profile image
Blueruth in reply to jeffersonsam99

They aren’t targeting a country! That is where the first detected it. Just like delta was detected in India and alpha in UK.

Journalism is about reporting information you can’t get to. Not their fault you don’t like it. They report the information they have. If you don’t want fear mongering don’t read or watch commentators. I am so sick of people that don’t know the difference between tv news commentators and journalists. Lumping all sources of information into “media” and then giving them an “agenda” is like saying all medical want you to get sick.

Here are some facts for you from WHO and the CDC... educate yourself.

28 November 2021 Statement

On 26 November 2021, WHO designated the variant B.1.1.529 a variant of concern, named Omicron, on the advice of WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on Virus Evolution (TAG-VE). This decision was based on the evidence presented to the TAG-VE that Omicron has several mutations that may have an impact on how it behaves, for example, on how easily it spreads or the severity of illness it causes. Here is a summary of what is currently known.

CDC Statement on B.1.1.529 (Omicron variant)

Media Statement

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 26, 2021

Contact: Media Relations

On November 26, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified a new variant, B.1.1.529, as a Variant of Concern and has named it Omicron. No cases of this variant have been identified in the U.S. to date. CDC is following the details of this new variant, first reported to the WHO by South Africa. We are grateful to the South African government and its scientists who have openly communicated with the global scientific community and continue to share information about this variant with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and CDC. We are working with other U.S. and global public health and industry partners to learn more about this variant, as we continue to monitor its path.

CDC is continuously monitoring variants and the U.S. variant surveillance system has reliably detected new variants in this country. We expect Omicron to be identified quickly, if it emerges in the U.S.

We know what it takes to prevent the spread of COVID-19. CDC recommends people follow prevention strategies such as wearing a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high community transmission, washing your hands frequently, and physically distancing from others. CDC also recommends that everyone 5 years and older protect themselves from COVID-19 by getting fully vaccinated. CDC encourages a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose for those who are eligible.

Travelers to the U.S. should continue to follow CDC recommendations for traveling.

CDC will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Honestly I can’t watch the news your be on social media. I research 🧐 then I make a choice of what I will do to protect myself. I believe people with anxiety and depression can be very empathetic people. Watching the news and such just creates more sadness and anxiety and anger etc…turn that crap off is my two cents. I already live in enough fear. We have a choice to turn it on your off. Try it you might like it. 😃✌️❤️

Nothing is a waste of time if that's the information people are looking at to make their own decisions.

Sorry I meant what are you using for your research? There is a lot of bad information that poses as good information. They make a statement without any data to back it up and a lot of time there isn’t even an actual expert. That’s why I like *good, reputable * journalists that will present all sides and explain it. They have way more time to investigate then I. I read opinions of course. I just don’t think other people know when it is opinion vs journalism.

fauxartist profile image

I hear you about forming an opinion on various info sources. I think a lot of misinformation is due to 'cherry-picking' what ever data suites someone's agenda. The days of relying on truth and facts have become internet Play-Doh for those wishing to mold peoples minds and interests towards their own goals. Whether it's 'hits' and 'likes', or trolling for data to data mine people's interests to steer them towards products, movies, or political babble. What ever someone want's to believe...they will...there doesn't need to be any proof anymore, no one cares about the truth or proof if you just believe what ever some meme or twitter grabs your attention.

So true! I am so sick of asking friends where did you get that info and it's coming off of tik tok, really??!!! Educated in medicine and you can't see things are cut off and manipulated on those clips?

Like the quarter that sticks to your arm... the microchip 🙄

It's crazy stuff and it just never ends.

Or laser beams from space starting the fires in California...

yep.. The 'Tin Foil Hat' society is now a legit source of info.

And don't forget the doctor touted as a source for why a drug for malaria was good for Covid, who also said there were 'Lizard People' in high places in our politics manipulating people....probably with some HooDoo mind melding process...

I'm getting my cat this snazzy model just in case...

purrr..fect fit everytime

Hahaha...... love the cat hat hahaha....

We are on the same page. You and I read good sources and we reach our own personal logical conclusions.

If someone wants to play quarters or watch for " lizard people" they can go that route.

Keep your mask on and stay safe.
