Life after TBI.

Good morning! Last year on August 14th I was involved in a bad car accident. I ended up with a broken jaw and was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury. I spent 2 months in the hospital and rehabilitation center. I was wondering has any else ever had traumatic brain injury to see what complications did you have after you were able to come home and how did you adjust to things.

I'm not sure if they consider it Traumatic, but I do have brain injury due to having strokes. I have memory loss, I can't really remember much before my illness, or even some things after my illness.

I have migraines often, I'm on medication for them.

Honestly I'm very fearful one day soon I'm going to forget everything. It's pretty frightening. This is just my experience. I have scar tissue and had a bleed on my frontal lobe (I think that's where, but again I can't remember much).

Adjusting wasn't too difficult in my case. The memory thing makes it difficult to remember appts, conversations, etc. Other than that it's just a battle with the migraines.

Hi if you look at other communities and type brain in quite a few sites will come up. I don't know how good they are or active but you might get a better response by putting your post in there too.

Thank you so much for the reply. I deal with the same issues. Memory loss and having a hard time concentrating. And it’s so aggravating. I have to keep everything like appointments and reminders to take my medicine written down on a calendar.

I started having seizures because of the accident and it’s to the point I don’t trust staying by myself right now and it’s so aggravating.

Is it something that gets better over time or is it just something you just have to get use to and adjust your life around?

I had a seizure as well, followed by seizure activity so I understand that. I have a 2 year old, and it still messes with me (after a year without a seizure) to give him a bath, or be alone with him, or even just get my license and drive. It is very aggravating. For me, I've had to get used to it. I have medication to avoid seizures and help with migraines, but otherwise it's an everyday battle. For me it's still getting worse. I've just learned to cope. Have you talked to a doctor about your symptoms? Maybe they can give you something for your anxiety and to help you concentrate.

I have medicine for the seizures. I had end up getting a counselor and a psychiatrist as well and I was prescribed medicine for depression and anxiety. My neurologist just tells me something that’s gone take time but I guess I’m just to impatient. It’s like everything has been put on pause for me.

I know how that is. With time I'm sure it'll get easier. But if you need a friend or someone to vent to, I'm here.
