Feeling so sluggish these days. I was in a group home for a while and literally everything revolves around my roommate, and the main worker didn’t want me showering every day because he wanted to save money on his bill. So, I was forced to feel gross every other day. And, now I’m so used to the lifestyle that I can’t get motivated to shower every day. At least I can every other. But, it still sucks because I feel dirty and at the same time I get so depressed and I feel like i can’t do anything about it. It sucks so bad!!! My whole world has revolves around other people and I really don’t “belong” in a group home… I just needed a safe place to stay in the city due to my mental health, and now I’m back in the country, living with my family, which is good. Anyway, does anyone have any advice as to how I can get past this depression and shower every day, like i used to?

Hello. I have bipolar disorder and I'm surviving on disability. I see group homes as being dead ends. I was in one only for about 3 months and I was so glad to get out of that situation!!! I used to have my own apartment and car, but I have fallen on hard times, I don't have a car right now and I'm living with my parents. The way I look at it, no matter what your circumstances, you have to do the best you can for yourself. I've never been good about having to get up real early in the morning, I know I would not last at a job if I had to be at work by 6am. Try to live by some kind of schedule, even if you don't have a job or school, where you wake up and go to bed around the same time every day. Even on the weekend if you can do it. I know how everyone likes to stay up late on the weekend, but then Monday comes and you don't want to drag yourself out of bed!!! Also, try to plan your days where you have something to look forward to in the day, where you would be motivated to get up. And make getting up in the morning easier on you, take a shower before you go to bed so in the morning you're not rushing around to get ready for the day.

That person who ran that home should be spoken to. I don't mean fired but going on about the shower.

I sometimes have a bath before bed if I have an appointment the next day.

You will rebuild your life again. Anxiety is a nightmare and people who don't have it do NOT understand.

Only other people who have it or the professionals do.
