Medicines losing effect

I’ve been on lexapro for about 8 years and i feel like it may not be working as well as it used to. I’m also going through a lot of life changes though so I’m not sure which could be the reason for my constant anxiety. Wanted to see if anyone else had experiences with their meds losing effectiveness??

Yes! I'm back on lexapro right now. I've been on meds for about 30 years for my depression and anxiety. They can definitely weaken, especially the SSRI's. I have to change them every few years it seems. Celexa is pretty good. Prozac I find soooooo sedating. I also took Duloxatine for a while and liked it but that was an SNRI. There's a lot out there. Best of luck to you!

As Broken said, this can happen. Happened to me with Celexa. It took about a year for it to slowly 'poop out'. Work with your doc. As you said, it could be the life changes.

I thought the same thing until I went off it and realized it was working. In my opinion, if life is hectic it’s probably not the time to start changing your meds. Try diet, therapy and meditation along with your medication.

Thanks so much! That’s a very good point, just started therapy today so we’ll see!
